Well. I recently had a spark of inspiration.

I thought that a good game would be for the winner of the previous challenge to set up a card, and omit most of the card. So, for example, a card could only have a name and power, but the rest would be up to the creative discretion of the contestants. This would have the same judging system and rules as, say, the picture into a card design game. There is one specific rule. Every piece that is given in the challenge must be used. Anything else can be added on, even a transform side.

So...
In order to represent omitted areas, _____s will be used

So. If this sounds cool, I will start it off with :

Spoiler:
_______ 2 mana symbolBlue mana symbolBlue mana symbol
Creature-_____
________:________Counters________.

I originally wanted it to only be spells, so that way it couldn't mess with planeswalkers, but a lot of abilities put counters on your creatures, like Mikaeus, the Lunarch, so I just upped the cost on the ability.

I think it's worded correctly, but I am not sure.

Hey, you guys, I hate to be a billboard, but you guys should help me out in my design game thread, The Other Side...; the link is in my sig. It's been lagging a bit, the new contest was supposed to be judged today, but we have only two entries so far. A little help? A happy smile

The name doesn't sound too elegant, but the card itself is quite intriguing. It lets you sac your attackers to snipe specific creatures, while boosting your life. The requirement of sacrificing the attacking creature balances out the power of the ability a bit, I think, but it's still very good. It also feels more evenly White mana symbolRed mana symbol, not biased toward White mana symbol.

Interesting use of Sunburst. I like the idea of Sunburst with colored creatures, but I dislike it with multicolored creatures - it feels too easy. This guy will come in as, at least, a 6/6; and he's got a very powerful ability. I do really like the elegance of the design though; you use Sunburst as a flavorful tool to evoke Mirrodin's glory, and connect it very beautifully with the trigger. Nice work!

Wall... soldier? I didn't know walls could have jobs. This card says "attack!", but doesn't attack itself, which kinda feels bad... and I don't get why a defender is pooping out such excellent attackers. Overall, it's neat, but perhaps a bit mish-mash, and I don't see any innovation.

"In the heat of battle every soldier is a hero."

Beautiful name and flavor, and the card certainly is interesting. But Leadership is not keywordable. It's a lord ability, which you're not going to see in the lower rarities - and it's a very broad lord ability, which can buff a lot. It's like having a field made of Lieges. It's a cool card, but not keyword-worthy.

Another defender, another White mana symbolWhite mana symbolRed mana symbol... interesting. I don't like seeing "whenever a creature you control attacks" alongside "defender", as it just feels bad. The abilities also don't feel right; why do my soldiers deal 1 damage to me in order to get +1/+3? Why +1/+3, instead of a nicer number? It just feels odd.

So, it's ninjutsu, but you can use it whenever you want? Seems a bit too easy to trigger, doesn't it? The ability allows for some interesting shenanigans and combos, so it's all fine, I guess. It just doesn't feel like a very interesting ability for a legendary creature to have.

A non-optional sacrifice trigger? That sucks. I don't understand why this dude has suspend. It feels completely random and unnecessary.
The ability itself is interesting... give up one creature's damage to amplify anothers. It might have been more strictly 'equivalent' if it just doubled the damage of the other creature (Overblaze style) but it still is pretty clever.

Judging
Noahlotr
Frogspawn Mist: This card feels very Simic, and reminds me of Omnibian. Actually, this card has great synergy with Omnibian. I like the flavortext, and the card as a whole makes sense. It makes me want to build a Frog deck, and that's good.
My one concern is that an endless stream of chump-blockers or sacrifices could be a bit much for 2 mana, especially at uncommon. I'd probably cost the card 1 mana symbolGreen mana symbolBlue mana symbol or even 2 mana symbolGreen mana symbolBlue mana symbol. This card could also be very scary in Draft in a frog-heavy set, or with anthem effects...
8.5/10

kevinfdh
Grasping Mist of Aleron: The second ability on this card is scarily powerful. In a deck with cheap creatures and/or token production, you could easily be drawing a half-dozen cards per turn - on turn four! Also, I'm assuming you meant "Tap an untapped creature you control," as otherwise you could simply target a tapped creature. Also, "target" isn't usually used in costs.
The first ability is a quite reasonable defensive ability, if a bit awkwardly worded. The card would be more balanced with just that ability and its current cost (although then it wouldn't fit my challenge); to make it fit the challenge, I'd replace the second ability with a small effect and increase the cost some. Also, I'd word the first ability "At the beginning of your upkeep, tap target creature you don't control. If you lost more than 5 life since your last upkeep, tap two target creatures you don't control instead."
Also, this card doesn't really feel green; it makes more sense as mono-blue.
4/10

HerzinthTheDark
Rotspore Mist: I like the overall design of this card, but it seems just a little too powerful, given the amount of self-mill in Innistrad block. The first ability immediately makes me think "creatureless deck," but the second ability prevents that bit of cheating, so that works.
Adding a cost to the ability, perhaps 2 mana symbol, 1 mana symbolBlack mana symbol, or the like, would help prevent a deck from milling itself for a few dozen, then wiping its opponent's field for 3 mana. Also, this card really doesn't feel that blue. I might change the cost to 1 mana symbolBlack mana symbolBlack mana symbol, because graveyard tricks, sacrificing as a cost, and -1/-1 counters are all very Black mana symbol effects.
8/10

ThisIsSakon
Daybreak Mist: This card makes you immune to combat damage, essentially forever, for 3 mana per turn. The first ability is not that much weaker than Growing Ranks, as the deck you'd use that ability in would usually have tons of creatures. Ever heard of Turbofog? This card is essentially a Turbofog deck on one card; way too powerful. I do like the condition on the populate ability, though.
4/10

spazlaz
Stinging Mist: The challenge required Blue mana symbol. However, I like the design. It is certainly too much for uncommon (for Draft if no other reason), and probably too powerful for its cost, but the card does a good job of combining the two colors it uses.
6/10

Results
The winner is Noahlotr! A very close runner-up is HerzinthTheDark.

"and/or", "for as long as"
Pretty powerful. By the time you play a three cost, you still have a fairly large hand. Especially playing blue. Pay four and tap to draw four a turn? With a three cost? Also, as far as I can tell, the cards still count towards this even after you cast them, because there's no clause specifying otherwise. Pretty damn interesting idea though.

Harlequin of the Spade
On a purely aesthetic note, my favourite render. And I love Harlequins in general. HOWEVER, that is not what these cards are being rated on. Should be "target opponent". "Of the same type". Ability should probably have a tap cost, and probably a Blue/black mana symbol cost as well. Repeated bouncing like that is pretty powerful. Once again, however, great idea.

Hmm, apparently the challenge I gave begged for lots of similar cards. My bad.

Phasing
This phases in or out before you untap during each of your untap steps. While it's phased out, it's treated as though it doesn't exist.
