@theHuw Uh...how does Ruby Elder work if it blocks? Do you get just get an X/1 creature, or does it fizzle, since creatures you control can't attack outside of your turn?

Flo00: Interesting. Four-colored design space is always fun. Feels weird that one of them has keywords while the rest don't, though. Some of these also look to be of questionable power level, particular Swarm-Hide and Deep-Mind (returning your graveyard to hand is abusable as fuck).
Mocan: I like the political idea of the second abilities. Power-wise and cycle-wise, just a bit weird that some of them have a triggered ability other than the combat damage and others don't, and for Despair almost no one will actually end up paying the life because cards being milled aren't that bad. Overall, a cool cycle with a few issues.
Kagerowrs: Reenact is sweet. If there's anything I'd change, maybe not have Fionl give haste because 1) it doesn't really synergize with reenact and 2) breaks the pie. Overall though I really like this.
huw: Mechanically sound cycle. Still, if there's one qualm with this it doesn't really feel mythic IMO. They feel more like a bunch of flashy rares than like, mythics? Hard to explain that sentiment but if you were to DM me or something I'd be more than willing to try and better articulate this.

Every set in the Magic has an ability that symbolizes culture or events going on in that given set. Cascade, Leveler, Infect, Morbid, ten different ability of forever fragmented Ravnica, so on.
It really doesn't matter though, after all. You are in parallel timeline in which every events concluded differently.

So, make cycle of five cards, using the mechanic and flavor representing altered plane. But here is a catch - You cannot provide me with any exposition except the name of the set, name of the cards, and flavor text that fits the given card.

Just to make sure I understand this right:
We take an already existing plane, make up a somehow altered version of it and create a cycle of cards on that altered plane. The cycle has to use one made-up mechanic that kind of represents what is going on.

Considering that one week has been pass, and no one else submitted an entry, Flo00 will take the win automatically.

As for judging, Based on mechanic, it seems as though in this alternate history, Mercenary right out betrayed those in control, Revolution ended in spectacular success, but now everyone is struggling to shape Mercadia in their (factional) image. At least, that is the immediate interpretation I can see.

Mechanic wise, I don't think Spellshaper as core mechanic will work out well, as you will quickly run out of cards to discard. I think it is fixable by support cards though, problem is - depending on how 'fixer' are designed, it will likely spike the problem initial Mercadia set had.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't know what problems Mercardia had, I started playing 2004 (original Mirrodin).

Next challenge: Make a cycle of friendly-pair colored commanders that use expirience counters. Bonus points if they are characters from Magic lore.

@Flo00: Most Rebel creatures from Masques have ability to search another Rebel at no card loss. Combined with much slower meta, this allows card like Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero to generate seemingly endless card advantage. Just set up few rebels, then leave rest to the control as Rebel search ability is instant speed.

Yes, Jubiliate abilities are bad compared to playing 'money cards' of same cost in standard, but if you allow them to recycle too many jubiliate, now people have never-drying resource. I did noticed that you countered 'Draw and Stall' problem by relating the ability with life loss though, so it might not be too bad.

That said, I wonder what is with extremely difficult challenges these days.

I guess I should jusdge this...

@angel666: I like all of the cards. The only thing I don't really like is that Rhmir chacks on any artifact. Checking only on yours or only on your opponents' would be less abusable I think.
I'd word Allek "... converted mana cost X or less, where X is the number of experience counters you have." but that's just my taste. He lacks a creture type by the way.
I like Endril the most, he tells you to play a complete new strategy: anti-tribal. Also misses a type (which is very important on this guy).

Individual cards:
Green mana symbolBlue mana symbol I think this one is good, I mean SBM effect is one of the weakest outside limited, but that trample is worth it. At least once you'll get the value.
Also, interesting making a druid vedalken.

Black mana symbolGreen mana symbol This might be the most powerful of the cycle, deathtouch with that somewhat big butt is a big thing, and we already seen how much a Specter can be annoying, what about a Specter with a huge upside? Yes please!

Blue mana symbolRed mana symbol This is pretty fair for a spellslinger/tempo deck, the haste fits pretty nicely here, being able to shock opposing bearers. I liked it, well balanced.

White mana symbolBlack mana symbol Ok, I have to say that Demon Cleric is very weird haha' Why not just Human? I mean, there have always been a Human Cleric and Demon thing already °.< This one is also good, the value with entombing everytime would make this probably a bomb in limited and maybe could see some constructed play on a favorable meta.

Red mana symbolWhite mana symbol A very good limited card and maybe some agressive Boros deck would run this one since it would be on average a 3/2 with double strike/lifelink.

Cycle overall: I liked the idea very much,I liked you didn't went for them having protection to avoid being as broken as their Swords.
I don't know if it was very well balanced as a whole, the Golgari one looks much more powerful than the others (I think it would be a thing even if you give it -1 stats), other than that it was a good cycle!

Blue mana symbol Wind Drake with upside? Yes please! (I think the Animate should cost 1 more to be honest.)
Black mana symbol This one is fine, and with right costs.
Red mana symbol Maybe the weakest of the cycle, but might still be good on a limited RX deck.
Green mana symbol Awn, green doesn't deserve a keyword? A sad &#039;frowny&#039;

Cycle as a whole:
I really loved Animate, fitting two different themes in a really good way, it reminds me of Time Spiral block in a way.
Maybe these shouldn't be at common for limited reasons, but giving the environment, they might be ok.

Demon Cleric - The point was to use Mirrodin tribes/class combinations that corresponded to the appropriate enemy colors - Human isn't really dedicated to a particular color (and if it was, it'd be White mana symbol.) In hindsight I should've done Zombie Cleric. Criticism of Feast and Famine is fair though IMHO.

Angelus_Reprobi: I find it a bit odd that the Rare wants the Common but the Uncommon wants the Rare, feels like a design clash IMHO. Nevertheless the concept is conveyed well in a series of simple effects.

Celebi: ....why does a Witch's Broom untap lands? Witch's Bag is an intersting mana sink, it's essentially 7 mana symbol to tutor anything and then 6 mana symbol afterwards. I fear EDH would go a bit too crazy with it though. Black shouldn't get Isamaru, Hound of Konda because it's not the weenie color, IMHO.
