I'd hold off on adding challenges. The more you add, the less interesting options there are for winners to have. I'd only add things that seem boring but are good for the health of the game, basically anything that's unlikely to be added but should really be in there. I'm thinking things like "cycles" of challenges. IE: blue card/red card/green card/etc.

Inanimate's picture

Yes, that's what I would add. I understand that the winners need to have lots of options available. I'm trying to keep away from having too many challenges that explicitly outline card-types and such, as it makes the chance of contradiction more likely. I will re-roll if conflicts occur, but I just want to keep them to a minimum. For instance, that's why I didn't have Legendary on the list (although it's far less a problem than I thought, on second glance.)

However, I don't think adding challenges will be necessary. Was just asking in case I'd have to! Thanks again for all the wonderful feedback and participation, everyone.

EDIT REASONS
I think I'm going to stick with this.
Giving it regenerate means it's a lot tougher, but not as easily as when I thought about giving it first strike.

It fits well with the black/green.
Now, it's a lot more tempting to try and kill it by resisting death: My goal is to make the other players (defending player) want to kill it through 'starving' it. I think this'll work.

It can't be exactly "one" or "1", but anything else is fair game.

Also, Count Bleck, the color identity of the creature has to be three or more colors. Colored abilities don't add to the colors of a creature; for instance, Bant Battlemage still only registers as white.

I really hate this challenge - or it hates me Winking smiley

My first thought was "Ok, I'll create a wegde-colored Charm and use green to damage-whipe flyers.." and than it came to me: "Chose one:" .. Oh jeah, right..

The Charms led me to Fiery Justice and than exactly to Sewn-Eyes entry.. Ok, too slow..

Ok, uncommons don't like me, so my third try led me to the following madness..:

Omasy of the five Suns White mana symbolBlue mana symbolBlack mana symbolRed mana symbolGreen mana symbol

At the beginning of your upkeep, you may discard a card. If that card is white, double your life total; if it is blue, gain control of target creature; if it is black, search target opponents library for up to six cards with different names and exile them, shuffle the library afterwards; if it is red, Omasy of the five Suns deals 5 damage to target player; if it is green, destroy target noncreature permanent.

Ok, wall of text.. I tried, it really fits onto a card and i really like the idea behind the card.. But even with the slightly changed / shortened wording still.. Wall of text..

So, what to create afther three dead ends..? How about a crazy smurf-planeswalker..?^^

Onette, Crone Hermit X mana symbolRed/green mana symbolBlack mana symbol

Legendary Creature -- Mutant Shaman Rare

Tap symbol, Sacrifice a creature: Onette deals X damage to target player. If damage is dealt this way, that player draws a card.
5/4

~

and in case you missed it, here's an explanation (worth reading, imo!) for all of the things that went into her and why she's a "joke entry" s:

Spoiler:
- Onette, Crone Hermit (i.e. loner)
- She's legendary (there can be only one)
- She's most efficient at X=1 (for 3 cmc, if she's your only creature (one again), she's a 5/4)
- At this efficient cost, her draw ability is the best it can be for you: sacrifice 1 creature (obviously useful in case you happen to have too many creatures for her to be a 5/4), deal 1 damage to yourself, draw 1 card.

On the other hand, you can totally pay (e.g.) X=5. I still have you covered, in that case:
Unless you have the perfect number of creatures (unlikely?), she's a persistent 1/1 --
but she's still pretty useful! (Tap, sacrifice a creature: 5 damage to a player! awesome.)

Oh, and at X=0 she's just awful: there's kind of an unspoken minimum of pay at least 1 for X.

Judging is in:

Kagerowrs
Only deals damage to creatures, so it's probably not overpowered, but it seems very similar to Seal of Doom, only with weird mana requirements and red instead of black. Seems OK, but the white/black doesn't make much sense and seems tacked on to meet the requirements.

Sewn-Eye
Very powerful and versatile, but good for the mana requirement and health loss. The white seems out of place, though. I know it's there to meet the requirements of the challenge, but that doesn't mean you can just throw on mana symbols and not reflect it in the card.

Inanimate
Rage Thrower is decent at best, and this is far worse. It works with bounce, but much more importantly it doesn't work when your own creatures die. It also has less power, and so puts less pressure on your enemy. It costs 1 less mana, but the 3 types of mana required mean you probably won't get it out on turn 5 all that often.

Make this thing a 5/5 and give it flying, and it'd be a nice limited bomb. Short of that, there's just not much going for it.

Zuty
Like most random cards, might be fun in casual, or in multiplayer, or in a silly theme deck. Other than that, it's not worth much. Most competitive players wouldn't cast this if it was free.

Droqen
A Flametongue Kavu varient, eh? It's defintiely good, probably too good, even with the drawback. One thing of note is that you can't save him with his regeneration ability. Regeneration doesn't stop sacrifice, only "destroy" effects.

Even with all the work you need to do to keep him on the battlefield, though, it's just too powerful, even more so than Flametongue Kavu, since it's so much harder to kill.

Count Bleck
My only nitpick is that it should be "Boggart Wildcaller deals 4 damage". Other than that, this seems like a great card. Would be great in the current block, with all the morbid effects.

Noahlotr
Wheeee, damn that's strong! It is pretty mana intensive, though, and a small enough body that you should probably be OK. Seems like a blast to use in limited, and may even be strong enough for constructed, depending on how the field looks.

My main two worries are that it should only make your opponent discard one card, and that those hybrid mana costs are really ugly and should just be generic mana.

Styrofoamking
Very weird. It's good, I suppose, but mostly it just seems weird and akward to play with. Why is it legendary? Why the weird mana cost? Why is it a creature?

elmdor
Should probably be uncommon, partly for power reasons but more just because of it's mana cost.

Really not too much to say about the card itself, it's just a good solid guy that does things we already know about. Still, I haven't seen these together and it seems like an obvious combination, so good work.

hooliganj
Basically a giant ashmouth hound, which is fine I suppose. The ability combos well with trample, but the white mana seems out of place.

You're probably right that it's a bit underpowered. Would be good in limited as a high-end creature, though, so it's probably fine.

Sohel
Eww, that mana is so gross. As for the effects, it's fine I suppose, but a bit boring and generic. The last one is also very strange and more complicated than it needs to be.

Daij_Djan
I'm assuming this is meant to be a joke entry, but it seems OK in general. Reminds me of Zedruu, but it can't be a commander (at least by official rules) which kinda limits it's usefulness.

Hummingbird James
Hmm, very interesting. I could see a lot of ways to use this card, and while I don't think it's good enough for constructed, it should be lots of fun for casual play and limited.

Final Boss
12 power for 6 mana is too much. It's an interesting concept, but it's just too powerful in it's current form. You cast it, attack with two 4 power creatures, and either they get blocked, deal 4 damage, and kill two creatures, or they don't get blocked and just deal 12 damage. All that, and you're still left with a 4/2 body, and can even return it to your hand and cast it again in a pinch.

Rare cares, high-mana cards, and mana-intensive cards all allow you to break the mold of what's accepted to some degree, but not this much.

EyeofTruth
Hmm, interesting. 6 mana is probably a bit much, but it's close to what it needs to ne for such a powerful effect. A much bigger problem, though, is that it's off-color. Destroying permanents is green's thing, not black, and definitely not white.

lordofthetoasters
Very strong. Hard to say if it's too strong, but it's definitely pushing things. If I had to guess, I'd say it's overpowered. Beyond that, it seems like a cool design with some options. Seems like it should only do the first two effects if you pay that type of mana, which would make it a bit more balanced and more interesting to play with.

MiruNuva650_Simic Member
Not sure how the flavor works on this, but I like the effect. Would be a lot of fun to use in limited or even constructed, and is probably about righ power-level wise. Nice job.

Bob58
That's a very strange effect, but I like it. It seems about balanced for what it does, my main concern is the weird body. In an enchantment-heavy deck, it seems like you'd want your creatures to be aggressive, so they can put on pressure and eventually win you the game, since enchantments don't usually do much to actually win you games.

There were a lot of cool things going on in this contest, but I kept coming back to this one. It's elegant, it's effective, and it does something new and exciting without shoving it down your throat. Overall just a very solid card and one I'd love to play with for a long time.

Sewn-Eye
Sewn-Eye's picture

The reason why both Depraved Integrity and Fiery Justice are partly white is because one of white's lesser themes is "spreading the love", so to speak, with cards like Glorious Anthem and Glorious Pledge, or Choking Fumes and Marrow Shards. In fact, all three of the colors chosen are known for their sweep effects. Wrath of God, Damnation, Chain Reaction.

A bit of a stretch, I know, but it's kind of a sacrifice you have to make with tri-colored cards. Many times, one of the colors only shares a passing trait with the card's actual effect. Take Tower Gargoyle, for example. White and blue fit quite well with this flying artifact creature (white and blue like fliers, and they also like artifacts). But black? Well... technically, black's got the third-greatest number of fliers in the game (after white and blue), and is third in terms of liking artifacts (maybe fourth, though red's got kind of a love-hate relationship with artifacts). It's really the only color that would have made sense as the third color.

Jeah, Yokey was some kind of yoke entry, but I do realise, it would be quite interesting in multiplayer games.. Nethertheless I think you give white a to little part of the coulor pie Winking smiley Sewn-Eye has already talked about Depraved Integrity, but Meteor Blast is even more perfectly in color, in fact.. If you look up the cards with "destroy target permanent" and ignore all colorless cards as well as ones with other restrictions (Pentarch Paladin)) you get:

White mana symbol 1
Green mana symbol 3 (one is Beast Within, which has a different kind of flavor, the other one is Desert Twister, which became green, simply because it was a "force of nature" and nowadays is mostly hated by wizards, like MaRo has stated multiple times..)

@AgentPaper - That tells me, While black is actually bit forced (Bump in the Night was the only possible reason), white can have deal damage to creature effect.

Lets see.

Black - Destroy target creature or land (Card like Doom Blade is example for creature destruction, and Sinkhole for land destruction, while it is somewhat at flavor, sinkhole is bit ridiculous.)
Red - Destroy target artifact or land
White - Destroy target artifact or enchantment (Disenchant does both.)

Land destruction for white and black is well introduced by Sinkhole or Armageddon. You can also try Desolation Angel.

Technically, Black and White is enough to cover all nonland type except planeswalker (There is no spell that says 'Destroy target planeswalker.') but putting red helps out explaining why the card could destroy a land.

Thinking Flame Wave, a nice Meteor Strike could have gone fine with '~ deals 3 damage to target player and each creature he or she controls.' After all, this meteor should be much larger then Shivan Meteor. Right?

ps. It's not 'Bit' forced I guess, 'lose life' and 'damage' is completely different, black is, as you said 'completely out of place' color.

For person wondering why did I said 'four' and 'thirteen' is looks very unlucky, find how to read 死 in chinese, korean, or japanese and what does it mean.

to save the time
Those three reads 死 same as four (四) which also can be read as evil (邪) which is also the death (死).
