Howdy, everyone. This is going to be a weird one!

The base rules of this game are very similar to some other games we've seen before: people are assigned a challenge, each make cards to fulfill it, and then the winner judges each card based on whatever criteria they wish.

However, it'd be no fun without a twist, right? And I've got one!

During the course of this game, I shall act as your dealer, the roller of the glorious Challenge Slots. The Challenge Slots are a giant compendium of random requirements, challenges, restrictions, and so on and so forth! These are called Limits.

Whenever a player wins a challenge, they are given the duty of adding a challenge to the Challenge Slots, to be forever carried within its consecrated selection. Their submission will then, by default, be Limit #1 for the next challenge! I will then roll our wonderful Challenge Slots, producing Limits #2 and #3. People have a single week to submit entries for the challenge, from the date I post Limits #2 and #3.

For example, let's say MagicFreak won the first challenge. He would post Limit #1 for everybody, then I'd respond with Limits #2 and #3. Everyone would hustle and bustle to submit an entry, and then MagicFreak judges. Whoever wins that challenge continues the cycle!

As the dealer, it is my personal duty to excise any contradictory, unfairly-difficult, or repeated challenges, so no worries, players! I've got you covered.

If there's ever a delay in the new challenge or judging for three days or more, I will personally step in to resolve it. No new challenge will be added to the pot, but instead, there shall be a brand new roll! Dealer wins, right?

Let's roll, everybody!

Your first three Limits are:

LIMIT #28: "The Challenge Slots has sentenced you to this challenge: you may only use up to three sentences in your card's textbox!"
LIMIT #46: "They say less is more. In this case, colorless!"
LIMIT #20: "Bottoms up! Your card cares about the bottom of your library."

Your goal, then, is to make a 3-sentence colorless card that cares about the bottom of your library. Best of luck, everyone! Judging shall (hopefully) be on the 29th of February.

Any contest that requires a specific person to be able to start each week is a bit of a no-no. I'd suggest putting the full list of challenges up, then each successive judge can copy the list and add their challenge onto it each week. That way, if you suddenly disappear for unknown reasons, the game can continue as normal. Having the whole list available would also help prevent issues of players submitting challenges that already exist.

As for the challenge itself:

Boros Battlewalker 4 mana symbol
Artifact Creature - Construct Blue mana symbol
When Boros Battlewalker enters the battlefield, reveal the bottom card of your library. If that card is red, Boros Battlewalker deals 2 damage to target creature or player. If that card is white, you gain 4 life.

Wow, Jet Set Radio Future, that brings back memories.

This is quite interesting! I've always liked the challenges in the Challenge Game thread with multiple constraints. This seems like it'll be tons of fun. Just curious: do we ever get to see the entire list of constraints?

Anywayyy, this one seems awfully difficult. Technically, "french vanilla" refers to a creature whose only abilities are evergreen keywords (according to the MTGSalvation wiki entry on vanilla creatures). That alone makes this impossible, as no evergreen keywords involve the bottom card of your library.

Even if your definition for "french vanilla" is, "A creature with any keywords," a creature whose only abilities can be keywords with one that must involve the bottom card of your library is very restricting, especially since it must also be colorless (hence, you're further restricted with what you can do with the bottom of your library).

I know this is about restrictions, but this seems a bit much. Even if you're unwilling to change the constraints, you're going to have to further define the "french vanilla" card, at the very least.

That said, here's my card (I don't even think it qualifies as french vanilla under the loosest meaning of the term). Action keywords ftw.

new card
Soul Chronicler 3 mana symbol
Artifact Blue mana symbol
Blue mana symbol, Tap symbol: Retrospect. You may cast the revealed card. If you don't, shuffle your library. (To retrospect, reveal the bottom card of your library.)
It reads you like a book.

old card
Æther Guide 3 mana symbol
Artifact Creature — Construct Blue mana symbol
When Æther Guide enters the battlefield, scry 3.
Whenever Æther Guide attacks, you may pay Blue mana symbol. If you do, reminisce. You may cast the revealed card. (To reminisce, reveal the bottom card of your library.)
1/4
The clairvoyants of Epityr often use totems to guide their forays into the Æther.[/card]

EDIT - Hit the "Save" button instead of the "Preview" button by accident. Reduced Æther Guide's scry 4 to scry 3 and fixed some of my awful grammar.

EDIT 2 - Linked MTGSalvation's Vanilla page. Also, JSRF's music is awesommme. Thanks for reintroducing it to my life!

EDIT 3 - New card replaced old card, as it had more than three sentences in its text box.

EDIT 4 - This is getting ridiculous, I know. Keyworded Flux Annal's "reveal the bottom card of your library" ability, added reminder text, and changed the name and flavor text to better match the new keyword. Reformatted this post this post easier to try to make it easier to read.

Not quite a French vanilla, but there aren't much options here. And yes, it uses the colorless frame. I'll put some flavor text later.

Edit: Missed a "the" in the text of that card.

French vanilla means, it has some effect when it enters the battlefield, but then once it's there, it's basically a vanilla creature. Technically the card shouldn't have even evergreen abilities like flying, first strike, and so on, but it's often used to refer to those cards as well.

For example, Snapcaster Mage is french vanilla. Mulldrifter isn't since it has flying.

Edit: Or at least, that's the definition I'd heard. Apparently that's something else.

Boros Battlewalker 4 mana symbol
Artifact Creature - Construct Uncommon
When Boros Battlewalker enters the battlefield, reveal the bottom card of your library. If that card is red, Boros Battlewalker deals 2 damage to target creature or player. If that card is white, you gain 4 life.
2/4

Nice job balancing the difference between damage and life-gain; a lot of cards (and designers) ignore their completely separate power levels. I find the idea of this card very interesting, as it rewards you for playing with the colors, especially with dual-color cards! Clever! Its one flaw is that it doesn't feel too Boros in its effects. It's not an aggressive card, stat-wise, and it doesn't really support the Boros style. I like it a lot, though, and it's definitely a strong entry to begin.

SewnEye
Soul Chronicler 3 mana symbol
Artifact Uncommon
Blue mana symbol, Tap symbol: Retrospect. You may cast the revealed card. If you don't, shuffle your library. (To retrospect, reveal the bottom card of your library.)
It reads you like a book.

An interesting card, for sure. Essentially acts as a chance at an extra card. In a properly optimized deck, it could work well. I especially like how it doesn't punish you for not getting a good card; it just shuffles it away for later. Very interesting.

Sohel
Channeler of Memories 3 mana symbol
Creature - Spirit Common
When ~ enters the battlefield, exile the bottom card of your library. ~ has flying as long as it's a creature.
2/3

Very interesting. The mechanic here is very interesting. The wording is a bit awkward, but nice. I am curious what the backstory to this colorless spirit is, especially with an ability like that; it acts as a vessel for thoughts?

Kagerows
Planar Sorter 3 mana symbol
Artifact Creature - Construct Common
When Planar Sorter enters the battlefield, sort 4 (To sort 4, look at the bottom 4 cards of your library. Choose any number of cards from it, then shuffle your library and put those cards on top of it in any order.)
2/2

While not exactly creatively named, the mechanic is intriguing. It's essentially... reverse scry? Right? A bear for 3 mana symbol is pretty solid, but with colorless scry as well, it's quite solid! Especially for a common! I think the numbers/rarity of this is a teensy-bit tweaked, but it's otherwise fine. It just doesn't seem to 'pop', though.

CrimsonReaper
Chronoscope
Artifact Rare
Whenever you would draw a card, you may instead put the bottom card of your library into your hand.
"It is irrelevant how distant or close the future is. The future it sees is now."

No mana cost? Interesting. It doesn't seem particularly worthy of having no mana cost. I'd probably cost this around 2 mana symbol for rare, or 3 mana symbol for uncommon (this is not a common ability, and it's barely uncommon). Neat idea for mechanic, though!

Styrofoamking
Djinn-pact Candle 1 mana symbol
Artifact Uncommon
X mana symbol, Tap symbol, Sacrifice Djinn-pact Candle: The next time you would draw a card this turn, instead look at the bottom X cards of your library, put one in your hand, and the rest back on the bottom of your library in a random order.

Interesting. Using the bottom of the library allows 'library manipulation' in colorless for a bit less mana, so it's pretty lucky we got such synergistic challenges! (Would've been nice to have blue though, eh?)
The card is designed well, and has a clever way of giving options without library-manipulation-hijinks. I like it.

You may cast the bottom card of your library if it’s a noncreature artifact card. (Do this only any time you could cast that artifact card. You still pay the spell’s costs.)
0/3

Again, a clever way to sneak blue effects into other colors! I like it. Works well in an artifact deck, and is accelerated by pumping it with blue mana. Wonderful flavor packed into a package that has a cool mechanic. Nice work!

Elmdor
Subconscious Projector 4 mana symbol
Artifact Rare
X mana symbol, Tap symbol: Target player reveals the bottom card of his or her library. If it's a creature card with converted mana cost X or less, put it onto the battlefield under your control. Otherwise, that player shuffles his or her library.

Interesting! I think a problem is that it limits to only creatures; I have to play a guessing game with my mana already, and it hurts it that I can't cast more things off of it. I do think, as a rare, it could do that for 1 mana symbol more, or so.

Noahlohtr
Digupper 4 mana symbol
Artifact Creature - Construct Uncommon
Digupper is indestructible.
At the beginning of your upkeep, you may exile the bottom card of your library. If you do, Digupper gets +X/+X until end of turn, where X is that card's converted mana cost.

What an evocative name, heh! It's got an interesting ability, especially since you don't have to exile it. Darksteel Myr is 1 toughness less, and no power-booster, for 1 mana symbol less. I'd say this card, while not in an equipment-heavy environment, would definitely be on the higher end of uncommons for its sheer utility. I'd say Digupper would have been fine if its +X/+X was +X/+0.
0/2

Carn13
Eye of Thoughts 3 mana symbol
Artifact Creature - Eye Construct Rare
Whenever a player would draw a card, you may look at the bottom card of that player's library. You may put that card into their hand instead.
2/2

Interesting. You can replace draws with annoying land or with bad cards. For 3 mana symbol, and as a 2/2, I'd say this could possibly be a bit dangerous in any color. This is typically black or blue's territory (screwing with draws and hands, that is), so I'd say this ability would probably cost 4 mana symbol with a body like that. Otherwise fine, though, and indeed very clever!

Dawnk41
Armageddon Hourglass 4 mana symbol
Artifact Mythic Rare
At the beginning of your upkeep, reveal the bottom card of your library. Put X charge counters on ~, where X is the revealed card's converted mana cost, then shuffle your library. When ~ has 30 or more charge counters, the player with the highest life total wins.

It feels like this ability would be more simply said as "when ~ has 30 or more charge counters on it, you win." If you're going through the trouble of casting a Mythic, and waiting turns for it to load (if you're doing very well, 10 turns, and that's a 3CMC each turn), you might as well be winning with Darksteel Reactor, which is far less susceptible to removal, and far more reliable (if far slower).
The flavor, however, is quite nice, and it definitely is a Mythic concept. It just needs tweaking.

Anuttymous
Ghostthought 2 mana symbolBlue mana symbol
Instant Common
CARDNAME is colorless.
Draw the bottom two cards of your library.
Only those gifted with the eye of dragon Ugin, the transcendent, can understand his wisdom.

I was just waiting for this one! While the name is kinda ugly on paper, it rolls off the tongue. The ability is very clever, too; it can't be screwed with via top-deck manipulation. The colorless stipulation barely matters (Ghostfire had it to pierce through protection), which is a bit sad, but its flavor does feel colorless.

Nikeyeia
Steelweave Embrace 2 mana symbolBlue mana symbol
Artifact Enchantment - Aura Uncommon
Enchant Creature
~ is colorless.
Tap symbol: Shuffle your library, then reveal the bottom card of your library. If that card is a creature card, enchanted creature gets +2/+2 and flying until end of turn.

Artifact Enchantment? Man, that Future Sight border really was fitting! I feel there's one major problem with this card: it kinda sucks! Why does blue care about revealing creatures, when it's best with instants? Why is it almost strictly worse than Spectral Flight? Why remove any possibility for scry-shenanigans with that "shuffle your library, then"? Being an Artifact and an Enchantment makes it very susceptible to removal, as well. It's a clever idea, but its balancing is off.

Hummingbird James
Mind Inverter 7 mana symbol

Creature - Eldrazi Uncommon
Annhialator 2
Whenever a permanent is sacrificed, put that permanent on the bottom of it's owner's library.
"Being Eldrazi, it doesn't care if everything it touches vanishes."

Lacking P/T definitely hurts this entry. The ability doesn't feel very uncommon, as it's a very niche ability; it can clog up a deck, or remove chances for reanimation or whatever, but against most decks its not that good, as it gives them the chance to draw their biggest threat again.

wonderboy_7_7_7
Deepworld Inverter 5 mana symbol
Creature - Construct
Play with the bottom card of your library revealed.
~'s power and toughness are equal to the converted mana cost of the bottom card of your library.

No P/T and no rarity, oof. The ability is clever, but the problem is: what if you get a land? Kapoosh, there goes your interesting 5 mana symbol creature. You could say "1 plus" and fix that issue, though! Many cards have done this. That'd stick it in rare territory... but it seems to be there anyway.

I was trying to capture the flavor of an entity that pumps magic through its very being; being essentially a living conduit of a spell, it has no power, but a decent amount of toughness.

In the world this being came from, the landscape has been torn apart by magic, wild and chaotic dimensional shifts and aberrant laws of physics leading to crazed, twisted landscapes. 'Weirds' are mysterious, eldritch beings that wander this wasteland, devouring the wild-magic and carving it into their very skin. Spells run through their etchings like blood through veins.
