Soon after Avacyn was broken out of her silver prison, and hope restored to humankind all over innistrad, she channeled the white mana produced by the humans devotion into making angels to serve and protect the peoples of the plane. Realizing that the humans would need a bannerchild and messenger, she decided to create an angel of great power. Lost in the creation process, she consulted humanity for what they would best need....

When the integration of green mana was brought up, Avacyn was confounded. Why would green mana be necessary when all the angel would do was white. The creation also felt fairly unexciting, and was not the powerful being whe was looking for.

When the proposal was made, Avacyn simply smiled. This was an angel to behold, bolstering the hearts of it's subjects and rallying them in the fight against evil. It was a bit dissapointing that it made the already-powerful angels stronger, and that it was potentially underwhelming if no evil was to be fought, though.

The great suggestions submitted by her subjects caused Avacyn to beextra weary when deciding what to create as flagbearer for humanity. Ultimately, she made her choice. Gathering all her strength, she channeled the mana of the devotion for her and created....

Daij_Djan: That. Was. Awesome. All kinds of Storm Herd effects are cool, and this one certainly fits the bill. What I was mostly looking for when judging was "mythicness", aka the huge epicness and jaw-droppingness of the card. While your card costs as much as Avacyn (who is kind of the BIG MOFO of angels), and could have bigger stats to differendiate itself from the CITIES it makes, I like it. It would have been a strong contender for the win.

At least for me, MVC is in fact propably the most difficult of the weakly "create one card"-contests (this is in fact my first entry ever - since I was to late with the angel Winking smiley ).. Making a (non-planeswalker) card feel mythic is though, especially instants and sorcerys (which seem to be the challenge at most times Winking smiley ) are hard..

Hmm, interesting. I can see where this is going, but global buffing feels against the idea of soulbond. It's two creatures bonding and sharing powers, not two bonding so one can buff everyone.

I like the idea. Turn two things into Invisible Stalkers? Sign me up. The only problem I can see with this entry is that it doesn't exactly feel mythic. Making things into Invisible Stalkers is good and all, but somehow not exactly "mythic".

Ooh, first legend of the challenge, and I'd love to play one in my U/G soulbond deck. It might be a little overcosted, though- 5 might have done the trick, with more colored mana. As is, cool Commander, great mythic to show off soulbond, but the cost turns me away a little, and it might not be as close to the card concept as it could be.

Okay, I get the idea, but the same problem with Dawnk41's entry shows here- soulbonding is what gives two creatures each other's abilities, not a cost to get a global buff. The "creature type matters" bit is cool, showing off the human tribal bit at mythic more. However, it's a bit overcosted for a lord who only buffs humans (Magician isn't a supported creature type, try Wizard instead), and only with hexproof. Maybe if it was a 5/5 it would be more worthy of the cost.

Glad to see you share my enthusiasm for the Shieldmate, and it definitely shows in the card. Well costed for the ability, the theme of the "protector" stays clear, and the ability is cool- but it just doesn't feel mythic. A cool rare definitely, but... smaller aura cost? Doesn't feel as cool as the other U/W Aura-centric mythic in the set, Bruna, who negates the entire disadvantage of auras. Good card, though.

This plays the "soulbond lord" idea very well, but it needs about a 4 mana cost increase. 5 power for 1? And hexproof? And another guaranteed 4 power, plus boosts for all my soulbonders to the tune of +2/+2 each? Cool card, but way undercosted.

Interesting idea, but the abilities are slightly arbitrary. Why only prevent with a white creature? I get the bond with Thalia and get more abilities- she's her Shieldmate, after all- but what's so special about any random Squire? I really don't think this carries the mythic feel very well, being very parasitic.

That's an idea I haven't seen before- repeatable bonding without bounce. I like it, and flash is a very cool little addition that I think adds a lot- but like other entries, it's miscosted. Already a 1/3 flash most likely hexproof, but with the addition of continued hexproofing, even with the pushing of creatures that's been happening, this should be Blue mana symbolBlue mana symbol.

Well, that's... different. A cool idea for the obligatory clone, but it really wants things that hexproof can't do. Namely, bond with opponent's creatures. Also, his Mirrorweave ability doesn't work- as soon as the creatures become copies, they lose soulbond unless they had it already, and then the ability only provides benefits with Trusted Forcemage and Wolfir Silverheart, as none of the other soulbond bonuses stack.

I really like copy spells. Especially ones on sticks, like the Mirrorshield. However, I'll have to take points off here for the global buff thing, as I really just don't think it's a good idea. Otherwise? I love the card. If there was no soulbond, I probably would have marked it winner- but then it wouldn't be Elgaud Shieldmate. Still, fun card and the best of the ones who tried to be lords when soulbound.

Okay, I'd just like to point out that the "can't be exiled" is almost completely pointless. There are very few cards that do non-targeted exile, and even fewer in standard. Doesn't feel mythic either, being essentially an overcosted Elgaud Shieldmate. Sorry, but this fell flat.

Hey, I actually really like this one! A clear upgrade of the Shieldmate, making things practically irremovable, very mythic in ability. I would like to say, however, that everything surviving isn't WOTC's style theses days- although creatures are being pushed, they should still be at least a little answerable.

Ah, Invisible Stalker maker. I remember you. Same complaints apply- doesn't feel mythic. Also, there's not much Elgaud Shieldmate in there. Mechanics are close, but the flavor has swerved way off the track.

And the Winner Is...
It was a very close match-up between Zuty's Molly Finch, the Spellwild, and Daij_Djan's Elgaud Shieldmate, but I personally think that Daij_Djan's carried out the execution of the protector to its mythic extreme. Congratulations Daij_Djan on winning the Mythic Version Contest!

Wow, I really didn't expect to win this contest - on my first try Winking smiley Only as a little side note: Effects like of Curse of Death's Hold or Black Sun's Zenith, the fresh reprinted Barter in Blood or the whole Infect-mechanic make even indestructable creatures with hexproof remain quite "killable"..

Anyway, I'd like you to make a mythic version of.. Alchemist's Apprentice!
