I figured out a better way to make the bonus for casting out of color with the hybrid mana. This is better than the quantity reliant version and a lot less cluttered. However, it forces you to play multicolor or out of color completely.

I just don't really like how they force you to play multicolor if you want the abilities. Maybe we should just make an ability that works kind of like sunburst but not. Here is my go at it:

[Overflow] - For each mana spent to play this creature, [do this].

This way you can decide whether you want to pay an amount between 5 and 10, depending on how much of the ability you want.

Here are some ideas of what we could do for the different colors.
White mana symbol Target creature you control gains protection from the color of your choice until end of turn.
Blue mana symbol Tap or untap target creature.
Black mana symbol Target creature an opponent controls gets -2/-2 until end of turn.
Red mana symbol Target creature you control gets +2/+0 and gains first strike until end of turn.
Green mana symbol Target creature you control gets +1/+1 and gains trample until end of turn.

Of course these are just ideas. And another idea for them is that we could give them all Flash.

Hmmm. I like those ideas although the black one seems way better than the rest. Anyways....
The next task is to submit ideas for our split cards. They will be uncommon and have one side as Mirran and the other Phyrexian. It will be broke down as follows:
Mirran - Phyrexian
White - Black
Black - Green
Green - Blue
Blue - Red
Red - White

Look here for inspiration on Phyrexian spells. Note that proliferate is going to be on no more than three cards in the set. It will go on the planeswalker and is on a blue uncommon so there is only room for one more (although we don't have to use it. It is counterproductive to our setting). And here is all the split cards. Following are some names that have been suggested. You may use whatever works though.

Law//Order, Love//Hate, Knife//Gunfight , Rock//Roll , Punch//Kick, and Man//Animal.
Body//Mind, Sticks//Stones, Nuts//Bolts, Add//Subtract, Gains//Losses, Recycle//Reuse, Blood//Water, and Lost//Found.
Sickness//Health, Good Times//Bad Times, Strength//Stamina, Brains//Brawn, Victory//Defeat, Soul//Spirit, Walk//Run, Look//See, Shield//Sword, Advance//Recognized, Build//Tear Down, Light//Dark, Earth//Sky, Break//Repair, Melt//Forge, Hunt//Kill, Live Long//Prosper, Divide//Conquer, Push/Pull.

Yeah I was going to make it just -1/-1 but I felt that it was a little to weak for a mythic 10 CMC creature.

I think that found doesn't need a -1/-1 counter, as being exiled is already hard to pool from. I usually never have cards exiled in a game, anyways. Could be slightly broken with Knoglege Pool, too.

Hmmm... I posted here a ferw days ago but now I see that my post has somehow disappeared? Not sure how, I remember seeing it go through.

Anyways....
I really like Victory//Defeat although Defeat should just force one sac.
Divide//Conquer is great although it shouldn/t have a sac in Conquer.
Found is great too. I like the idea. It is a great imprint hoser and just a cool card. I think that in the setting with imprint just pulling form exile make sit "Phyrexian enough". I have a suggestion for it though.

I know that NPH doesn't exist in this world but your defeat is the same (actually worse) than Geth's Verdict.

And Conquer is far worse than the core set Act of Treason and it doesn't feel very Phyrexian.

A lot of the ideas I got for cards came from the statement of what makes a Phyrexian card in the first two sets. Sacrifice was a big one, as was infect, graveyard effects, and lose life effects.

Yes, Defeat is similar to Geth's Verdict. Although it in itself is worse, you have to consider that it has the additional benefit of having another card attached which you may choose to play. Cards that offer more choices are often higher cost or weaker effects. Although that doesn't mean we can't change it. I had orginally planned on just making it Cruel Edict.

Conquer is not far worse than Act of Treason. It is an instant which means it could nullify an attacker, or even worse, pull an attacker to block another attacker and kill both creatures. Anyways, I think it could be four mana like Ray of Command.

I see what you are saying, though I think it could use a little more flavor. How does the effect feel like Phyrexian and why is it named Defeat?

As for Conquer, I just feel that it is a little costly for the effect. Act of Aggression is an instant that does the same thing and costs the same but can alternately be cast for 3 mana symbol.

As for the having more options, I don't really agree that that should be a reason for increased cost. I haven't seen any split cards that have higher costs for similar effects cause you can still only play one of them, even if you are playing both colors.

Well Assualt and Dead are an uncommon Shock obviously worse than Lightning Bolt, Bust costs two more than Armegeddon, Boom costs more and ups Raze to a rare, Order and [/card]Chaos[/card] are both more expensive than you would normally pay for that effect, as are Night and Day, and well many others. They pretty much all are either upped in rarity, cost more, or have a slightly weaker tweak to the effect.

What would you have in mind for Defeat? The only reason I changed it is because it could potentially be a board wiper at uncommon. Usually the most uncommon gets is -2/-2 or deal 2-3 damage to all.

And as I said, I think Conquer can be costed opposite Ray of Command. In draft Act of Aggression is a first pick over about 90% of the rares in New Phyrexia. Even at full cost it is amazing. Its only problem is red is weak in Scars draft.

Next task:
You are free to comment on anything in the file (which will be updated soon), the abilities and flavor for the "bringers", and post any random ideas.

The task though is to come up with Mirrodin cards which will use or interact with charge counters. This set should showcase some of the best cards in this area. Also, cards that have limited use with charge counters are good for the reforge mechanic. Remember to look at the design skeleton in the set file but feel free to design outside of that if it fits. Great designs will find a place.

One specific design I would like to see is a common "spellbook" cycle which will use 2C mana cost and activation cost to accumulate charge counters used for effects.

i.e. a previous example I posted but not neccessarily what will be used:

Alright so I have been busy with house hunting and a new job and haven't given this much attention; however, I can't help but notice that nobody else has posted here. If there is anyone who is still interested in this project please post here so I know. We are not using phyrexian mana for a few reasons. Mostly, because it wouldn't make much flavor sense to introduce a new mechanic for the side that lost, and having 10-20% Phyrexian did not leave enough design space to really take advantage of phyrexian mana. It is a cool mechanic and we don't want to use it in a set that cant really take advantage of it. Instead we have hybrid mana for Mirran colored artifacts. It doesn't allow free stuff but it does allow for some color bleeding and aggresive costing.

Let me know what ideas you might have. I was recently inspired with some new ideas which I will share when I can update the file.

@Durbs - I was thinking about just keeping Melira the same as New Phyrexia. A couple cards are being shifted over and that one was a good one.
@WDF - Phyrexians is not a card or creature type so having protection from them doesn't do anything. Watermarks have no rules association so that would not work either. Melira is actually a good way to get around that since most phyrexians have infect in Scars and Besieged.
We need some green and black commons still if you have any ideas.

@WDF - I think you may be thinking of "protection from permanents with Phyrexia in the name" or something. I don't think we should do that though since not every phyrexian card has it in the name. I think that just protecting from the types of things phyrexia does is better. Like Melira.

@Durbs - I think that for Mirrodin we should leave the mana producing to the Myrs which we have two in the set already. I gave the Tyrranax +1/+1 and +Green mana symbol. I already had a black common card just a 3/2 for 4 mana but I liked your name so I switched that out.

There will be a Mirrodin aligned cycle of uncommon artifact creatures with 2C/2C/2C casting cost (such as A 2/W hybrid mana symbol.A 2/W hybrid mana symbol.A 2/W hybrid mana symbol.) so if you have any ideas for that please shoot.

Well the cycle is actually three mana cards all like A 2/W hybrid mana symbol.A 2/W hybrid mana symbol.A 2/W hybrid mana symbol. and so on.
But you can submit ideas for other things as well. Also, cycling is not an evergreen ability and is not in this set.

EDIT: I updated the set file on the first page and my signature. Some of the ideas I had are:

Ichor Synchronyth 1 mana symbol
Artifact Colorless mana symbol
Whenever Ichor Synchronyth enters the battlefield or is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, you may put a -1/-1 counter on target creature.

Karn's Gaurdian 4 mana symbol
Artifact Creature Colorless mana symbol
Reforge 4 mana symbol
Most creatures of Mirrodin live to serve their creator. Some serve beyond that.

Imprint - When Graft Gratera dies, you may exile it. If you do, imprint it to target creature.

Graft Gratera's wording seems a little wierd to me. Maybe:
Imprint- When Graft Gratera dies, you may exile it. Of you do, target creature gets +1/+1 for as long as Graft Gratera remains exiled.

And, alright, sorry. I didn't see that. Consider the other ones as ideas for creatures, then.

I thought of reverse proliferate but it seemed kind of obvious and boring. I wanted the Mirrans to have thier own way of fighting off the Phyrexians.
Originally we were going to have a Puresteel Colossus but it was brought up that we would have too many high end casting cost creatures in the block and I think that is right.
Steel Spear - This is really cool. I like it a lot. It is an easy metalcraft enabler as well as a decent card itself.
Puresteel Blade - No +1/+1 counters in this set since their will be -1/-1 counters.
Sword of Mirrodin and Phyrexia - I don't see a reason to show these in the same card. It sounds like they are teaming up or something.

About those cards..

Puresteel Blade - I thought about Puresteel converting Infection to some actually useful power to use against Phyrexia, but I agree. That is really not fitting with Puresteel (More like Kauromium setting in my own set.)

Sword of Mirrodin and Phyrexia - Actually, I was thinking opposite of teaming up. But I agree. It does feel that way...

I should think more about this theme...

I tried to make 5 uncommon 2/C 2/C 2/C costing creature cycle with name of Walker of [Location of Lacuna]
It is practically same location featured in Artifact Land (Mirrodin), Zenith Sorcery (Mirrodin Besieged).
With Black and Green is Phyrexian side and all other White, Blue, Red and Colorless is on Mirrodin side.

Walker of Panopticon replaces Phyrexia's Core.

I think most of those card need to be fixed a lot. But I am still new to Magic... (Joined playing when Scars of Mirrodin released.)

"Your first mistake was thinking I would let you live long enough to to make a second." Emotional Outbreak is counter part of Mental Misstep. It did good work to be counter part of Mental Misstep, but where will be used is still in question.

Final Part is Direct Replacement for NPH cards.

Sadly, Both of them uses nearly identical ability, just in different way.

Only problem with that is that you really only want one type of counters to go on creatures in the same set to avoid confusion. Since -1/-1 counters are out there, we really wouldn't want to use charge counters to. That is why you will never see a creature that uses charge counters. Well, except Chimeric Mass.
It might be ok to have the color specific effect becuase you will end up paying a lot of mana to get it out of color.

EDIT: Looking at them again, they would all work without the mana restriction. I wouldn't want five cards that give you a 3/3 indestructible for 6 mana symbol as it would take from variance. However, I did not originally perceive this to be such a tight cycle. I wanted a little more variance in them.
