Post bug reports for MSE 2.0.0 here.

Please stay on topic. If you want to discuss the details of a problem, start a new thread.

Known program issues (printing):

  • Printer margins are ignored, causing cards not to fit on the page.
  • Blurring of text for shadows is zoom dependent, this goes wrong when printing.
Known program issues (image functions):
  • When using crop_image function, transparency is lost, and offsets may move from where they should be. #11
  • "drop_shadow function causes all sorts of problems, normally crashing. ?
  • Alpha doesn't seem to work correctly in combine_blend.
Known program issues (non-template exporting):
  • MWS Export has lots of bugs. #26
  • Apprentice export has lots of problems: #17 * It ruins Appr's Distro.dat and Format.dat files.
    * Mythic Rares export as commons, should be "-M".
    * Basic Lands should have "-L" rarity, not common rarity.
    * Special rarity cards should have "-S" rarity, not common rarity.
    * Planeswalker, flips, and splits lose extra information. Tokens and rulestips shouldn't export.
Known program issues (assorted):
  • Copy/paste doesn't work for export template options.
  • Transparent images are not imported correctly in the symbol editor.
  • Transparency isn't preserved in default images for image fields. #15
  • CARDNAME replacement causes the cursor to skip ahead sometimes, or down a line. #29
  • Horizontal spacing of symbol-fonts is zoom dependent. #12
  • If an installer has an update to Magic game file, the update won't be installed.
  • "Sometimes fonts aren't installed for unknown reasons. ?
  • Sometimes CARDNAME can cause the card to appear to have extra spaces. Original Report. #27
  • When switching tabs, filter box is cleared, but list remains filtered. #67 *

Known template issues:

  • HTML export template throw an error report about an invalid string escape sequence. #30
  • Landcycling variants don't work if they aren't the first thing in the textbox.
  • In Magic, symbols aren't sorted if symbolized using the star button.
  • In Magic, the " - " automatic text replacement doesn't seem to be working.
  • The trim under the text box in the white land for magic-future has a slight blue tint to it.
  • A dash before "~", like "-~" causes CARDNAME replacement to not work correctly.

#N = Reported in TRAC system, with N being the ticket number.
* = Fixed in the development version, so also in the next release.
? = Unconfirmed / failed to reproduce.

I don't see 2.0.0 Bug report, so I'm reporting there. Also, it also was happening on 0.3.9.
When you use the search box and then move to the keyword tab, and then return to the cards tab, the search bar es empty, and all the non-filtered card are deleted. Only the card filtered card remains.

Please note that while that is a bug, the cards aren't deleted. They reappear when you type something else in the search bar.

In linux:
Installed ok
Tried to run, but it complained about a missing library...
./magicseteditor: error while loading shared libraries: libboost_regex.so.1.40.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Found and installed libbboost_regex but it still complained because I installed a newer version and apparently your linked to a specific version... created a symlink and got the program to open
Clicking new set once does nothing.
Clicking repeated finally brings up the new set window but all the images are missing. (theres still no error on the console at this point)
Clicking on the game type and card type (where there should be a card image or such) allows me to ok
The program then crashes:
magicseteditor: /usr/include/boost/smart_ptr/intrusive_ptr.hpp:166: T* boost::intrusive_ptr<T>::operator->() const [with T = Game]: Assertion `px != 0' failed.
Aborted

Any help would be appreciated

Trying to open an existing set gives a segmentation fault.

In windows:
Everything seems ok, except "Save as" doesn't work. I click file, then save as, and the menu goes away and nothing happens.

MSE (any version I've tried) has a write error in WINE on OS X (CrossOver, WineSkin, PlayOnMac, etc). It is able to open, load & display MSE-SET files, and you can add/edit cards while doing so, but it cannot save back to disk.

Error message screenshots: http://www.flickr.com/photos/54502630@N07/sets/72157626039932226/detail/

NOTE: Upon trying to save a set, it does manage to create a file stub and write a 104 byte header:

50 4B 03 04 14 00 00 00 00 00 82 60 4D 3E 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 73 65
74 50 4B 01 02 1A 00 14 00 00 00 00 00 82 60 4D 3E 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 03 00 00
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 73 65 74 50 4B 05 06 00 00 00 00 01 00 01 00 31 00
00 00 21 00 00 00 00 00

PK.........`M>................setPK...........`M>..............................setPK..........1...!.....

However, the actual card contents do not write to disk.

I can use MSE in a Windows VM, but WINE compatibility would be much better. Since MSE is able to write SOMETHING, presumably a comparison of the parts of the program that write the header vs the parts that write the data could reveal a solution.

So, I'm posting the 'bug' I mentioned here.

Essentially, the last couple of versions of MSE didn't like:
save value: { if card.trait3=="Breed Other" then true else false }

Pichoro suggested that "save value" can't take scripts, but I KNOW this worked when I first made it (several years ago now), and there haven't been THAT many updates since then. Hence logged as a bug not a request. (It's ends up on true.)

kaelari: creating a link to another version of a library is asking for trouble.
You could try building from the source instead.

Frankie: The header is the header of a .zip file. Apparently writing the contents of this zip file fails for some reason. MSE first saves the set to a temporary file, before storing it in the zip archive, it looks to me like the temporary file is not found. I don't know why.

Picks-at-Flies: it never really worked, MSE just silently ignored the error before 0.3.9, and set save_value to true.

FWIW, here's the text of the error messages from the screen shots:

On program launch:
Failed to retrieve text of RAS error message (error 1: invalid function)

On save attempt:
Failed to create a temporary file name (error 267: directory name not found)
can't open file '' (error 3: path not found)

Hmm, I just tried it again now and got a different error on save:
can't open file '\var\folders\fj\fj[random_gibberish]\-Tmp-\mse6209.tmp' (error 3: path not found)
can't seek on file descriptor (error 3: path not found)

Note: /var/folders/[blah_blah_blah]/-Tmp-/ is a directory for temp files. The file mse6209.tmp does not exist there.

Twan: deleted the link to the lib. Then compiled from source. Took a few tries to get it to work (mostly installing libraries). got it to compile without errors. same problems as before. deleted it, ran make clean, ran configure and recompiled, no errors, same problems.
managed to figure out a few things, had to delete ~/.magicseteditor then do some other things but got it to run. still getting an error about the locale file, will worry about it later.

Thanks Twan but, just to be clear, is this something that could be made to work in the future (in which case, I'll pop it onto the wishlist), or is it just not viable at all?

Picks-at-Flies: is it really that important to sometimes not save something? I would think that saving too much doesn't hurt.

On the update, the function to_title() now works differently. Before, it ignored symbols appearing before the first letter of the words, now it doesn't. Also, the articles a, an, and the are never capitalized (and they did before).

Thanks, Twan!
In a separate note, I have found some issues with the Lackey CCG export. It don't generate the set name on the export text file.
Thanks a lot in advance.

So, I had opened a Trac ticket (#60) for the issues of MSE not finding the spellchecker dictionary on my computer. It turns out that it was an issue of case sensitivity in Linux again (it was looking for en_US.dic while the file I had was en_us.dic). I've closed the ticket as it's not really a bug, but I figured that if I posted here the issue may get resolved permanently.

I recently downloaded the packs to allow for rules tips cards. After I made a few, I saved, closed, and went about my things. When I opened the set editor back up, I got this message:

Warnings while reading file:
D:\Magic\Magic Set Editor 2\data\magic-rulestip.mse-style/style

On line 146: Expected floating point number instead of '12 '

Just wondering if the problem is in the editor, or if I'm just being an idiot.

Thanks ahead of time.

It's in the editor, not something you're doing - just ignore it, everything seems fine and it'll be fixed in a future release.

Is this change really a problem for you? I personally don't consider it a bug. How were you using the to_title function?
Internally there are two 'to_title' like functions in MSE: one for "Titles in the English Style" and one for "Sentence style capitalization". The to_title function does the former, should I also make a function available in scripts that does the latter?

I'm sorry, I thought it was a bug (since it didn't appear to be listed as a change to the program). In the template I've been working on, some cards have a bullet or a lozenge (diamond) in front of their names. Before the update, To_Title would still capitlize the first letter (ignoring the symbol).

Is there a way I can get it to just recapitalize the articles though? Just make an update to my own script then?

I am having problems changing the rarity on MSE. I am using Winebottler and whenever I click on the rarity changing window, it blinks out.

There's a blatant problem with my installation of Magic Set Editor 2: in all Magic templates, when text wraps it doesn't add a newline. Other templates (such as Schemes and Planes) work fine.
I have no errors on the terminal I run the program from. I'm on a fully updated Ubuntu 10.10.

OK i found a problem!

I replaced Entwine keyword reminder text to be this: "Choose all three if you pay the entwine cost,"

now in the Statistics if i click on Keyword nothing comes up.. well actually something does come up for some reason it comes up as a blank keyword, and it only shows 1 of 5 of my entwine cards. However; if i delete this custom keyword it works fine... I hope this helps

OK, posted this in my templates thread and got no response, so I'm assuming it's a bug and posting it here.

Stacking two symbols causes the alpha layer to be displayed in any area that is transparent in both images, even if there is an image underneath. This only occurs in the editor, though - any render of the card comes out correctly.

Example:

Also, to_title() does not capitalize a letter that comes after punctuation. The first letter after a quotation mark or bracket of any shape should capitalize. For example, to_title("<b>Title</b>") would return "title", where it should be "Title".

On the to_title function - Twan already addressed this just a few posts up.

But, I want to address something on it. If we look at the documentation for to_title, we can see that the input for it is a string. Strings can be tagged, as in your example, and it gives us no indication that it ignores tags. So I'm not sure this should be unexpected.

My advice is to consider rearranging your formatting of that text so that to_title is applied prior to the bold tags.

I saw that, really, I wanted to point out the cases where to_title *should* capitalize after punctuation.

Pichoro wrote:

This wouldn't be practical most of the time. The user of a template can't choose when to apply to_title to a text field. And the script (where to_title is most likely to be found) is applied to the text field after any change, including using the bold edit.

The workaround is to simply have the title always display in bold, controlled through the font rather than tags. But if a template needs to allow the user to apply boldface (or any other tag) to selected words in the title, then this behavior of to_title is a problem. Thus, I think it is legitimately a bug.

Also, the previous complaintant pointed out the problem with 'A', 'An' and 'The'. I assume they meant that those words should be capitalized when at the beginning of the title, which to_title currently replaces with the lowercase. As it is, the behavior of to_title is so poor that I've chosen to leave it out completely.

What do you mean by stacking?

hooliganj wrote:

I agree with you there. I hadn't thought of it this way, but to_title("a dog") should be "A Dog" and to_title("this (that). a cat") should be to_title("This (That). A Cat"). Added to bug tracker #70.

hooliganj wrote:

The to_title function is intended for 'normal' strings, not for strings with tags. One thing you can do right now is to first remove the tags, before using to_title.
I realize that the distinction between strings with and without tags is a bit confusing, and it is a problem in general for other functions as well. For example, what should match(match:"apple",input:"app<b>le</b>" be true or false? Which one is appropriate depends on the context, but I think that in most cases tags should be ignored. But in other cases the input might be a normal string, where '<' is just the less than sign, and has nothing to do with tags. So what should happen to to_title("a < b")?

twan wrote:

I have two symbols displayed in the same spot, one at z index: 1 and another at z index: 2. There is also a background image displayed behind both of them at z index: 0. The result is as you see in the picture. The two layers of transparency cause the alpha layer to be displayed, instead of the background image, but only in the editor.

As for to_title, I think any function that is meant to manipulate or check the text of a string should ignore tags. There should be a seperate set of functions (most of which already exist) for manipulating and checking tags.

If, for some reason, you use to_title on a math equation, the variables should be capitalized, so to_title("a < b") should return "A < B".

Here is a bug in 2.0.0 regarding Magic: the Gathering cards. When I do a print preview (or actual print) any split cards in my set get rotated about 45 degrees counter-clockwise. This causes the card to be partially obscured by the one next to it.

Spoiler:

I've downloaded all of the split card templates that I can find and it affects them all equally. Also, using the forum search, I found a bug possibly related to this from version 0.3.8, but it was marked as fixed and there were no details given beyond the original bug report. I have tried reinstalling MSE, but the bug persists. I am using Windows XP service pack 3, but the bug is also apparent on another computer in my house which is running Windows 7.

Malchar: Oops. The split cards are actually rotated 90 radians, while they should have been rotated 90 degrees. So they are actually rotated 116.6 degrees counter clockwise. This will be fixed in the next version. This is not the same as the earlier bug, MSE switched to using radians internally between 0.3.9 and 2.0.0, which is when this bug was introduced.

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this.

There's a little problem with the future border for M:tG cards. If the border color is a combination of "artifact", "multicolor", and any color besides white, then the text color in the name, type, and p/t fields will be white instead of black. However, since the backgrounds of those fields are gold, they're very hard to read.

No real cards use this format, so it's not clear if this is actually an error or not. However, it probably is because it is difficult to read, and all multicolored cards with the normal (non future) border have black text.

I created a quick fix by editing the code in the style file. Not sure if it's efficient, but it seems to always work.
For the "name", lines 236 to 256 should be:

Spoiler:

					   contains(card.card_color, match:"horizontal") or

Hi, I'm having some issues with exporting to HTML spoiler. Here's a link:

As you can see, the colors are not labeled properly and artifacts are not displayed at all. I haven't tried this until version 2 so I don't know if this was bugged before.
Thanks!

@silee: That problems comes from the addition of clear colorless cards in Rise of the Eldrazi. A fix for this is going into the export template for spoiler and replacing these lines of code:

Old Code
{ if options.grouping == "group by color" then
	       # Codes as by sort_index
	       write_group(title: "White", code:"A") +
	       write_group(title: "Blue", code:"B") +
	       write_group(title: "Black", code:"C") +
	       write_group(title: "Red", code:"D") +
	       write_group(title: "Green", code:"E") +
	       write_group(title: "Multicolor", code:"F") +
	       write_group(title: "Hybrids", code:"G") +
	       write_group(title: "Multicolor split cards", code:"H") +
	       write_group(title: "Colorless", code:"I") +
	       write_group(title: "Non-basic lands", code:"K") +
	       write_group(title: "Basic lands", code:"L")
	    else
	       write_cards(cards: cards)
	  }

To this.
New Code
{ if options.grouping == "group by color" then
	       # Codes as by sort_index

Thanks! Do I just wait for an update? No rush or anything, as you can tell.

I'm using linux

I made a link to a set file and used that to open the file, but when I saved it, it overwrote the link with the set instead of changing the file that was linked to.

Not really a bug but its annoying nonetheless.

Whenever you select the cards and going up and down with the keyboards arrows, you hear the notification sound from windows everytime. Wasn't doing that with version 0.3.8.

I've had the same problem as turycell on Ubuntu. From the error console, it appears that the program doesn't properly recognize the floats as floats, and thus truncates the numbers. Since the line heights for most Magic templates has a 0.9, the line height is truncated to 0. The Schemes and Planes have minimum line heights of 1.x, truncating to 1, and thus appearing to be correct. A quick change in the magic-new style confirms this impression.

It is possibly due to localization settings, since I'm in a country using decimal commas rather than decimal points.

When an image field is displayed, it *always* has "double-click to load image" printed over it in the card editor - even when set to editable: false.

This can be worked around by making the field a choice with only one option (still set to editable: false), but the image field's behavior seems like a bug.

Not really sure why this popped up, but when I closed a set, this log appeared:

Spoiler:
17:07:39: can't read from file descriptor 3 (error 1006: the volume for a file has been externally altered so that the opened file is no longer valid.)
17:07:39: bad zipfile offset to entry

Nothing about the set was different from when it was last saved. Just curious if this does happen to be a bug.

I am receiving an error message. This is my 3rd or 4th set I have made and the first time this has happened. Upon loading the set all of my pictures are missing but not all of them. Some of them have actually swapped places, I have included a link that shows a picture that has swapped places and the error message it produces when I click on it. When I go to save it request I 'save as' and report a bug. Though it will not allow me to 'save as' or 'save' at all.

If anyone has a solution please help, I really do not want to redo all 30 some odd cards.

I have attached links to screen shots of both the error messages. I save all my pictures in Dropbox it is a free cloud service. Like I said I have not had this problem before. I have tried opening the set on different computers but I get the same error messages. I am running Windows if that means anything to anyone.

I have a transparent png over two images. In the main editor, I can see the two images underneath the "windows" of the transparent one, but when I print them, they are no longer visible. It turns the image to white, like it's not visible.

Hello!

I've got print issue with horizontal cards (Horizontal Future or Modern Tapped). All images are rotated in in print preview and print to pdf.

Edit: just saw above that Malchar reported the same bug.

Compiled from source under Debian 6 ("Squeeze"), rules/flavor text does not appear and "Add card" fails with spell checking turned on. The error my be caused by something in the mess of fixes that I had to make for several broken dependencies. I'm still working on accurately reproducing the steps taken and will update with the results once finished.

Twan, there are any way to manually solve the split card rotation problem? It is included into the template?

Hello. Maybe it's not a big issue, but kinda annoying:

Abilities that require activation cost (such as equip, cycling etc.) don't recognise phyrexian mana symbols as cost and it ends up something like this: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/823/nonamej.jpg/

On printing horizontal cards:

As a work around, if a set contains *only* horizontal cards and the default style for the set is a horizontal one, they seem to print sensibly. So splitting your cards into two files (one with normal cards and one with horizontal ones) should let you print them okay. You'll probably want to turn off automatic card numbering and number them by hand, though.

My error began occurring directly after saving a file which gave me the "bad zipfile offset to entry" error. When I later attempted to open the file, many pictures were missing, such as the set symbol, which would not even display the default square, and many card images. One card, however, did have an image, however it was an image from a different card. When I attempted to save it after fixing these things, it gave me the above error.
For the moment I have found a temporary workaround of copying all the cards into a new set, then replacing the old set with the new one.
