Some games have become so popular that they've been designated "official," with submissions arranged by the
staff into an open poll instead of being left for the previous winner to decide. If you would like to enter, simply
post your own entry for the current challenge. Winners may sometimes see their designs posted to the front page.

The winner must issue the next challenge.

I'd be happy to join in, but I know little about Leshrac (not even what colour would work for him [her?]).
May I suggest we use pictures that aren't already related to Magic at all?
It would invite more design space. And also, having no other restrictions besides the picture.
That's just what I'd say would make this a more popular game.

My comment about credit wasn't for you, dartcron. It was for those that come after you.

What I see happening is that 10 pages later, some forum noob is going to post an uncredited image, and I'm going to have a headache when I tell them "No, you can't do that."

Let me start off by saying how I'm going to judge. I'm going to judge based on Balance and Playability. I almost feel like this is a scale, because the more balanced a card is the more unplayable it becomes and the same is nearly true for the opposite. A distant third I want to judge on is does the card match the image, I guess for short I'll write this as "Image" but, I do wish there was a term for saying "does this image match this card," anyway.. on to judging

My opinion is this card should cost more or have lower attack and defense. Although, I do understand why you would want it to cost 8 as it is kind of hard to make players discard anything with a card that costs 8 much less 9 or 10 but, anyways in that case I would think its power and toughness could be less. Anyways the card seems playable and it also seems to be a mirror opposite of Kozilek, and it would be interesting to see mirror opposites of the other Legendary Eldrazi. On another note it is kind of hard for me to judge an Eldrazi submission due to not having much experience with them.

Well this card basically makes anything unblockable to colored cards, or it counters target colored spell targeting a creature you control. I would say this card is quite playable. I'm really not sure how balanced this would be in a play setting, but on another note, I like it.

It's hard for me to judge this on playability, because you know how many people play planechase or would be willing to because I don't. Honestly my guess is that 50% would and 50% wouldn't.

It does measure up to other planechase cards and it's perfectly balanced and it would fit in any deck of planechase. In The Eternities Map or more importantly a custom made players 10 card deck.

I also want to add that is that usually planechase cards have more scenery in them then this image so, even though I loove to see planechase cards and I bought all 4 packs of planechase. I gots to lower the score alittle (cry)

Well my biggest gripe about this is I don't feel the image matches the text in this case. I love the flavor text and the card, but in this image I don't see lands becoming creatures. I know the image is called "Up against the mountain," and I'm sorry just my opinion.

Well, I think it would be hard to make this card balanced and playable. I think the best way to do it is just to increase the amount your life cant be reduced by or perhaps allow it to be shuffled back into your library. Although the shuffle condition to me sounds like it, unbalances the scales too much. I really do like this card.

And the winner is....

@windandfire

Spoiler:
That's it. I'm sick of all this "only minotaurs have horns" BS that's going on in M:tG right now. Demons deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine horned demon in Japan for my soul (that's about $5.00 USD) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even possess slabs of solid steel with my demon.

Japanese Shintoists spend years working on a single demon and told their tales a million times to produce the finest monster known to mankind.

Demons are thrice as vicious as minotaurs and thrice as evil for that matter too. Anything a minotaur can disembowel, a demon can disembowel better. I'm pretty sure a demon could easily eviscerate a knight wearing full plate with a simple vertical slash.

Ever wonder why Grece never bothered conquering Japan? That's right, their minotaurs were too scared to fight the demonic harbingers of destruction. Even in World War II, American soldiers targeted the demons first because their killing power was feared and respected.

So what am I saying? Demons are simply the best monsters that the world has ever seen, and thus, require much more in M:tG. Here is the stat block I propose for Demons:

(Lesser Demon) 3 mana symbolBlack mana symbolBlack mana symbol
Creature - Demon {U}
Flying, first strike, vigilance, trample, haste lifelink, death touch
Base P/T of 9000.
Has: 9000 horns (as opposed to a minotaur's 2).

(Archdemon) 3 mana symbolBlack mana symbolBlack mana symbolBlack mana symbol
Creature - Demon {M}
Amplify 9001, bloodthirst 9001, flying, horsemanship, provoke, flanking, rampage 9001, first strike, double strike, vigilance, trample, shroud, haste, bushido 9001, protection from minotaurs
Base P/T of over 9000 (Fifteen bajillion^9001, to be exact)
Has: Fifteen bajillion horns (as opposed to a minotuar's 2).

Now that seems a lot more representative of the demonic power of demons in real life, don't you think?

tl;dr = Demons have horns too, see my new stat block.

2 mana symbolRed mana symbolRed mana symbol, remove a -1/-1 counter from ~,Tap symbol: ~ Deals 3 damage to target opponenet and each creature they control.
5/5
Suffering? Do not talk to me about suffering, you have no idea, puny planeswalker.

Image: 5 It could well be a minotaur, but it does not seem mono-red to me, nor does it seem like something that would be burdened with -1/-1 counters.
Balance: 7 Harder to decide on balance, but it seems okay. It might be a little too powerful though, as it has the opponent version of a Magma Phoenix, and it can be done at least twice. Potentially overpowering for 5 mana, with -1/-1 counter-based decks. It can suffer from a Lightning Bolt, though, so it should be able to remove it before it becomes a problem.
Usability: 10 Definitely usable. There's not really anything with the card that wouldn't work, I would imagine it going in most red decks I made if it existed, which is most the decks I make!

~ is colorless.
Tap symbol,White mana symbol, exile ~: Exile all creatures that dealt lethal damage this turn.
3/4
There is nothing on all the Planes that can stay the hand of justice when it is brought against them.

Image: 5 Doesn't really fit the image, yeah. I'm not seeing it dealing justice, really. More of the one needing the justice to be dealt to it. It doesn't look too white, either.
Balance: 9 Seems balanced, as the opponent will be cautious with what they use to attack or block, meaning most of your stuff isn't going to be dealt lethal damage by something they don't want to lose. Legendary, too, which is a good idea. Perhaps close to being a mythic, but it's a bit too selective, so I'll let that one go lightly.
Usability: 6 Can be played, in pretty much any deck using the two colours, however it seems highly succeptible to removal, being an artifact and colourless, meaning it's prone to Shatter and Doom Blade still.

Ob Nixilis, Forerunner of Apocalypse 3 mana symbolBlack mana symbolBlack mana symbolBlack mana symbol
Planeswalker - Nixilis
Whenever an opponent loses life, put a loyalty counter on ~
+2: Choose one - Target creature gets -3/-3 until end of turn; or target player loses 3 life.
-X: Search target player's library for up to X cards and put them in their graveyard. That player loses life equal to the number of cards put in their graveyard this way.
-10: Each opponent sacrifices 10 permanents and puts the top 10 cards of their library in the graveyard. Put any creatures put into the graveyard this way onto the battlefield under your control. They are black.
4

Image: 6 The image does feel like Ob Nixilis, though it doesn't seem like it's doing the life sapping, card sapping thing, in the way your card represents.
Balance: 3 This seems highly unbalanced. It would take the first ability twice to get up to enough to use its big one, which will wipe out most if not everything and give it to you, meaning a pretty close game end without a Day of Judgment or something, especially with no land to pay for it. Add on that the - ability still gives it back a loyalty counter, it all seems frighteningly too strong.
Usability: 9 This would be fairly easy to use, as it gets counters from just unblocked attackers, or Cunning Sparkmages. I could see a deck based around coming around, putting it down, powering it up to do either the big -10, or just kill with -X. It would also probably get into a lot of other decks for it's -3/-3, until the -10 is available.

Armor of the Damned 5 mana symbol
Artifact - Equipment Red mana symbol

Equipped creature gets +4/+4 and is a black demon in addition to it’s other types. If Equipped creature is sent to the graveyard or exiled return it to the battlefield tapped and attach Armor of the Damned to it.

Whenever Armor of the Damned becomes unattached from a permanent, attach it to that permanent.

Equip 2 mana symbol

The moment you don the armor you are forever bound to it.

Image: 8 Well, I assume you took the Armour approach based on it's name "Charr Armor", so naturally it's going to be like the image. Also, the inability to remove the armor is nice, and I could believe that the armour were just using the creature as a body.
Balance: 2 Unfortunately, it is immensely unbalanced, as for 7 mana you get yourself a nearly unstoppable creature. Put this on pretty much anything with evasion, and it'll be the easiest win you've seen.
Usability: 8 I can see it being used, I know I would use it. The idea is nice, and the way it works as it is, means I could put it down when I get it, and wait for my biggie, then as soon as it comes I can equip it, and voila! Good game.

Well after much thought I decided to use this image. Again I'll be rating on the same. Balance, is the card over powered or under powered? Usability, would players actually want to use the card? and Image, does the card match the picture and how well it does.

I think Anuty did some good judging on the previous event to this, although I really didn't expect to win.
I'll judge on next Saturday, so the date I will be judging is January the 29th, and the time will be after 8PM pacific time. I look forward to seeing all of your submissions. A happy smile

Prevent all damage a source of your choice would deal this turn. Add Red mana symbol to your mana pool for each 1 damage prevented in this way.

I was considering upping this to CMC 5 or 6, but I felt that since it clearly wanted to be used with a nice wide area burn spell like Chain Reaction (http://magiccards.info/wwk/en/74.html) it needed to be cheap enough to reasonably play on the same turn as such a card.
I also considered making it M Mana for MTG Extra, but I felt it didn't have quite enough 'oomph' to be appropriate at that rarity.

[+1] Spells you cast can't be countered this turn. Damage can't be prevented this turn.
[-1] LEGENDNAME deals 1 damage to each opponent. Draw a card.
[-5] Discard your hand, then draw seven cards. LEGENDNAME deals damage to each creature and each player equal to the number of cards you have drawn this turn.
{2}

Basically, it looks Chandra, and I saw there was water, or what looks like water, coming from her. Maybe to her, but for this instance from her. So I made her dual colours.

I really do like the idea of Four ability planeswalkers and she seems like the right fit.

That... is amazingly weird. Wow. Just wow. I'll see what I can do. Sorry about that Lo13.

EDIT: The only solution was a deletion. I've never seen anything like that. Try posting again, Lo13. I didn't see anything in your post that should have caused that either... so weird.

*scratches head* Was that a one-time glitch, or an actual bug in the forum software? 'cause it actually modified the HTML of the page rather than the just (I assume) the database where threads/replies are kept. Maybe a HTML generation error... ah, well.
