Alright, what follows is a short questionnaire about games you play and design for to help determine if it would make sense in the future to have non-MTG Card of the Week competitions. I also have a few questions about featuring non-standard templates, contest themes, etc. Please take a second to answer the following questions: 1) What games other than Magic: The Gathering do you play? Thanks in advance for any and all feedback everyone! EDIT: Suggestions so far that will be implemented in future competitions: Spoiler: - MTG: Design a card for a specific color or colors. |

1. Used to play YuGiOh and Pokemon, but no longer do.
2. I know longer play them, so I guess none.
3. Yes.
4. Yes, yes, and more yes. I would love to see some.
5. Yes.
6. I kind of see them similar to the You Make the Card themes.

1) Used to play YU-GI-OH!, literally 9 years ago.
2) I would like to stick with magic.
3) I would participate, most definitely.
4) Yes I would.
5) Unglued style as the cards are still playable.
6) Specific colors or types so that the front page has a variety of displays.
1) I used to play yu-gi-oh, Digimon, Pokemon, and .hack (well, still play the last one, but that's because my friend bought up about 10000 cards for ~$20)
2) I'm not familiar enough with the last three, and not interested in the first.
3) Sure.
4) Sure.
5) Sure, takes a bit more wit 'tough.
6) Space, The Convergence (Is there a template for this yet?)
Other than that, I could see revisiting old sets or remaking either overpowered or underpowered cards.

1.) Unfortunately, my only other game is Hecatomb.
2.) I'd do one for Hecatomb if you managed to fire one off.
3.) Yes.
4.) Probably, yes.
5.) Maybe.
6.) The only thing I can think of as far as Magic is themes around the "extra games", like Vanguard, Planechase, and Archenemy.

1)Other games are for pansies.
2)I suppose I'd design Warcraft cards if they were featured.
3)Absolutely.
4)Yes.
5)Yes.
6)Use the Rampage mechanic in an interesting way to develop a card that would warp standard solely because of the usage of said mechanic. (Really hard, I know.)

1) None really. I used to collect Pokémon cards, but I never played.
2) N/A.
3) Maybe.
4) Sure (as long as the cards created are black-bordered).
5) Probably not.
6) This is the part that's hard for me to answer.

1. Chess, Call of Duty, poker... oh, you mean TCGs. I played Yu-G-Oh! and Pokemon a while back.
2. Errm...not like I can make new chess pieces, guns, or palying cards... Yu-Gi-Oh!, maybe.
3. Heck yes!
4. Yes.
5. Of course!
6. How about superheroes and Warhamemr 40k?
You can call me DH.
These are the rules. Read them.
1. None at the moment, unless you count Fluxx, which seems to have a following here.
2. Sure, Fluxx sounds good.
3. Yes; they're often more fun, if anything.
4. Sure.
5. I wouldn't be totally thrilled about it; I'd probably approach challenges like this still working within the rules of Magic, but using amusing flavor, like this year's Christmas card.
6. Nothing comes to mind, but I'm sure there are plenty of good ideas in the You Make the Card and Challenge Game threads.
rawr.
What games other than Magic: The Gathering do you play?
Um. I just recently finished Half Life 2 (which was freaking awesome). I usually play Brawl with my friends, and I play StarCraft II on occasion. I like Fire Emblem and Castlevania. And Professor Layton.
Of those games, which ones would you be willing to design for if they were to be featured in a CotW contest?
Oh, card games? MtG was the only one, sorry.
For an MTG contest, would you participate in one that required a more complex card be designed? (For example, a flip card, a split card, a duplex card, etc.)
Maybe. I prefer to keep things simple, but you never know.
Would you participate in holiday themed CotW contests?
Maybe.
Would you participate in an Un themed CotW contest?
I doubt it. Un-sets aren't really my thing.
Name something, anything, you'd like to see as far as contest themes go.
Community card creation? I dunno, I'll probably go with Pich on this one. New formats are always fun.

1) Yu-Gi-Oh!, Munchkin on occasion. I know how to play the Pokémon TCG as well.
2) Believe it or not, I actually do my best to design for as many games as possible; I actively do VS System, despite having never played it. Any one I'm proficient in (M:tG and its variants, VS System, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Munchkin, Pokémon) I'm willing to work on.
3) It depends. I'm willing to do most of the older stuff and almost all of the unique stuff (like Heroes), but if the complexity is a complicated post-M10 mechanic I won't touch it with a bargepole. Likewise, I will not design cards that rely on combat damage or prevention due to M10 rules.
4) Depends.
5) Yes.
6) As far as contest themes go... I'd always like to see a "hoser" contest - that is, cards that are designed specifically to screw one color/type/etc.
Design skeletons!
Pokémon Magic skeletons!
1. I played yu gi oh a ways back.
2. I feel i could competently design a decent yu gi oh card.
3. I could do anything but duplex.
4. yes
5. no
6. I would love to see a contest for triggered levelers (Cards that gain level counters based on a trigger, such as the creature attacking).
My 'Stuff hub'
1) uhm. i still have a Yu-Gi-OH deck, bu don't really use it more then once every 2-3 months.
2) nope.
3) yes!
4) yes!
5) yes!
6) yes! ... Knights =D [sorry shiv =p]

September 21, 2007: Monkeychewtoy predicts monocolored hybrid cards, calls them "Ridiculous."
1) MtG is the only CCG I like.
2) Nope.
3) Sure.
4) Sure.
5) Yay =D
6) Hmm... Art-games? Some art is chosen, then we could make cards based on it? This would even be previewed Magic artwork.
(∩_∩)
1)None anymore
2)I guess it's just M:tG for me...
3)If I had time to work on a complex card, most definately.
4)Possibly. Again, depends on if I've got the extra time.
5)I'm cool with Un cards, so why not.
6)Anything really. Maybe a new mechanic theme where either everyone submits a card to show off a mechanic they've come up with or where a specific mechanic is set and everyone has to show how to best represent it? Hmmm...or maybe not I dunno
1) It seems I'm unusual here. I play, or have played enough to count:
Rage (dur), Babylon 5, L5R, Munchkin, Fluxx, Mythos, MECCG, Lord of the Rings, Doomtown, Shadowfist, VTES, Bridge, MagiNation Duel and quite a few others to a lesser extent.
2) Rage, B5, L5R, Doomtown, Munchkin, Fluxx. Knowing a game well enough to be able to design for it is a level up.
3) Yes
4) Yes, although I might object to nationalist holidays (so no Thanksgiving or royal weddings!)
5) Yes
6) Since people don't seem to want to do much non-Magic design, how about other-game orientated cards? (Monopoly would be fun...)

1) Used to play Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh!
2) Would have to identify the design principles in both, but shouldn't be too difficult.
3) Why not?

6) I'll get back to you

“The path to knowledge is locked. To get in you either have the right key, or be lucky enough to be able to pick the lock.”
Un) Presumably card games: Texas Hold 'Em!
Did play Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokémon, and a tiny bit of Duel Masters. Also, I notice HeroScape is available, which I play sometimes. Oh, and D&D. Don't think there's a template for that actually.
Deux) To be fair, I'd happily design anything, as long as the challenge is an interesting one, and I actually know something of the game.
Trois) You have me at Duplex (which was admittedly one of the last words, but whatever).
Quatre) Love to!
Cinq) Again, as long as the challenge is interesting, and not completely absurd, yes.
Six [no, I didn't go back to English]) Ermm... The appearance of them?
Well, there was this website once, that had some kinda daily "interesting thing today" thingy. Not very clear I know, but I can try to find it if you want. Obviously not using every day, but we can use a weekly one or something. That'd be awesome.
Glad to be of help!

1) What games other than Magic: The Gathering do you play?
I played Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh!, but M:tG is the best one (in my opininon).
2) Of those games, which ones would you be willing to design for if they were to be featured in a CotW contest?
Any one.
3) For an MTG contest, would you participate in one that required a more complex card be designed? (For example, a flip card, a split card, a duplex card, etc.)
A more complex card is good, but [url=http://mtg.pifro.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1297]Duplex[/card] is a bit too complex...
4) Would you participate in holiday themed CotW contests?
Yes.
5) Would you participate in an Un themed CotW contest?
Yes!
6) Name something, anything, you'd like to see as far as contest themes go.
Contest for unconventional card types, like Planes, Vanguards or Schemes; spoiler-themed challenges; art based challenges.

As posted before on another question about these, by pichoro:
Jéské: Made me laugh a lot, but no, I meant the board game version. Cards look like this. But I'm not cared enough for it to ask for templates.

ah well. enough derailing the thread.
as it seems, i think not many other games will be used for the CotW contest.
Maybe Yu-Gi-Oh. but hey, its called MAGIC set editor for a reason XD.
1) None
2) I answered none but i'd be willing to give others a try at designing.
3) Yeah
4) Of course
5) Yup
6) Perhaps something more Magic based than holidays like to celebrate a release or something along those lines.
I may not be lucky but i do have a loaded dice.
1) No other games. I second Kiligar. I played Star Wars and Redemption for about a week apiece.
2) None, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do them.
3) Yes. I like challenging designs. It keeps me alive.
4) Yes, why not?
5) Yes, might bring back !$#% Jar
6) I really like Monkeychewtoy's idea for designing a card for an upcoming set.
On this subject though I would point out that we have a Make the Card contest and Fix the Card contest already so although a little overlap is fine this contest should serve a different purpose overall. I would LIKE to see challenges that push my designing skill: Difficult themes or approaches (such as designing from art). However, what I think we SHOULD see is themes that will show off templates, MSE features, and design skill to those who visit the first page. Holiday themes would be good for holiday times as well. Out of everything on the first page any card render will steal the attention of the visitor so it should be something that we want them to see (or more specifically, that the admin wants them to see). Just my two cents. But it is Euro so it is worth more.

Here's my list:
I figured I may as well put in my $.02 even though I'm probably going to end up just ignoring this just like all of the other games on the forum.
My templates:
Looney Labs Games: Fluxx, Nanofictionary, Chrononauts
1) MtG is currently the only TCG I play. Used to play Yu-gi-oh, as well the Pokemon TCG up until Dragon Frontier.
2) MtG. I'm not so good at designing for other games.
3) Depends on whether or not I have the templates for it.
4) Sure.
5) Definitely.
6) Several:
"Take the bridge, men! Victory! Victory is ou - Retreat! RETREAT!"
Arrival of the Eldrazi Community Set
1. Mmm... mostly computer games. *shrug* I haven't played MtG in months due to RL. I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh when I was 10-ish, but that's history now.
2. I'd just stick to MtG.
3. Yes.
4. Probably. Assuming it's not proselytizing or something.
5. No... I don't like the Un cards, on principle.
6. Something to do with representing MtG cards as a strategic level rather than a tactical level. And I'm not talking about CA.
Blood is thicker than water, but politics are even thicker than blood.
- Dune: House Corrino
1. Games? Board and card games of all sorts. No other trading card games though.
2. I'd be very willing to design cards for Dominion or Race for the Galaxy. (I'm not sure if magic set editor supports any templates for these styles of card games though.)
3. Yup
4. Unlikely
5. Unlikely
6. I'd quite like people to not have to option to vote for themselves on the polls. Or each person get two votes with one vote intended for themself.
*All things change in time,
the good and the bad.*
Unfortunately, this isn't possible. That's just how our forum software is. Sorry. I understand why you want to stop people from voting for themselves, but really, that isn't fair either (when you vote in a poll and are restricted on what you can and cannot vote for, it isn't really an open poll.) You just have to encourage people to vote for somebody else's entry.
If we get this, there would be over 9000 cards.
Yes, this could be understood in more than one way.

1) What games other than Magic: The Gathering do you play?
None really, but I used to play a lot of Pokémon.
2) Of those games, which ones would you be willing to design for if they were to be featured in a CotW contest?
It'd really be a lot of fun to design a Pokémon card.
3) For an MTG contest, would you participate in one that required a more complex card be designed? (For example, a flip card, a split card, a duplex card, etc.)
I don't like flip cards; and the duplex card, wasn't it the forum version of BFM? I wouldn't like that either. But split cards I've never really tried myself, but they're really charming and cute, so I'd really love to try it out.
4) Would you participate in holiday themed CotW contests?
Of course.
5) Would you participate in an Un themed CotW contest?
I'd like to try this more than the holiday theme.
6) Name something, anything, you'd like to see as far as contest themes go.
As long as you keep it up! I think weekly card contests is a great concept.
Themes, however:
Make new identities for tribes and/or colors. F.x. we need a "Dwarf" mechanic to make tribal dwarves flavorful and viable - same goes for Centaurs and Humans.
Also, I'd like to see stuff that plays with the color pie. Green mass removal of some sort. Blue permanent destruction. Black lifegain. Etc.
1) What games other than Magic: The Gathering do you play?
I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokemon but only in video games :P
2) Of those games, which ones would you be willing to design for if they were to be featured in a CotW contest?
Nothing, I just want Magic
3) For an MTG contest, would you participate in one that required a more complex card be designed? (For example, a flip card, a split card, a duplex card, etc.)
I like it, because it will be interesting
4) Would you participate in holiday themed CotW contests?
No problem for me, as long as not in Un-Set theme :)
5) Would you participate in an Un themed CotW contest?
Nope. It's hard for me to make jokes that people would get (because I'm not living in western culture)
6) Name something, anything, you'd like to see as far as contest themes go.
