This is an export template that allows you to export your Magic sets into components to construct a working, playable OCTGN2 set file. For those who don't know, OCTGN2 is a tabletop card game simulator similar to MWS.

No modifications to the MTG template files are necessary to use this exporter. Simply unzip the folder and place it in the Files folder of your MSE directory.

There are some special export options that must be filled out first.:

Set Name - Enter the name of the set as you want it to appear in OCTGN.  Use only letters and numbers for this, to be safe.
Game Version - This should correspond to the current version of the Game Definition.  Right now it is 1.0.1, but may change in the future
Set Version - This represents the revision number of your set, keep it in X.X format (such as 0.3 for example)
Set GUID - This must be generated from www.guidgenerator.com
Booster Pack GUID - Get a different GUID from the same website as above
Land GUID - Again, get a different GUID.

Next, export the files as normal. You will generate a txt file, and a folder containing all your OCTGN files. The txt file will give you instructions on how to compile your OCTGN file correctly. I'll repeat what it says here:

How to compile the set file:
    1- Create a zip file, name it something appropriate to the set.
    2- Inside that zip folder, create 2 folders: one called "cards" and one called "_rels"
    3- Copy the ".rels" file and the "SETNAME.xml.rels" file into the "_rels" folder.
    4- Copy all image files into the "cards" folder.
    5- Copy the "SETNAME.xml" file and the "[CONTENT_TYPES].xml" file into the root of the zip.
    6- Close the zip, then rename the extension from ".zip" to ".o8s".
    7- Install the set file in OCTGN as you would any other set.

Finally, in OCTGN, install your file like you would any OCTGN set file.

Now, an advisory: This is the first release of the exporter template. There will most likely be some issues with it. Please report any problems to me and I'll try to work it out and fix the templates as necessary.

I've fixed a few issues with planeswalkers (I hope) and tokens, they SHOULD work properly now. A new version of the file can be found here: http://www.mediafire.com/?5ekjuaduuw4gbvg and I updated the first post as well.

I noticed that the "color" property is really gross in OCTGN. It functionally works, but shows up as "red, blue, multicolor" which is not how OCTGN normally shows color. I'll have to fix this for the next release.

I'm getting an error when installing the resulting o8s in OCTGN2:
'Magic_2013_Goblins_Lair.o8s' an error occured during installation:
The property 'Converted Mana Cost' is unknown

that is unusual, because converted mana cost is definitely a known property. What game definition version are you using?

Game version 0.0.2.1 If I used anything else I get an error about having the wrong game version. I just downloaded the latest version of Octgn (I believe) to make sure it's not old. I tried from scratch again today and this time I'm seeing:

'M13.o8s' an error occured during installation:

The property 'Color' is unknown (And the original o8s file is still showing the 'Converted Mana Cost' problem.

Thanks for your work on this exporter and thanks for your help, Brine, I'm really excited to be able to test my cards in Octgn.

The latest version of OCTGN (OCTGN 3.0) is incompatible with custom sets, unfortunately. I use OCTGN 2 and I set the game version to 2.0.7 when using the file exporter.

Ohhh. That explains a lot. I wish they hadn't removed the '3' from "Octgn 3".
In fact, the download page even calls it "OCTGN 2": http://www.octgn.net/downloads.php
Anyone know where I get the actual Octgn 2?

ok, I wanna clear up a few confusing points:

first, 0.0.2.1 is an <it>ancient</it> game definition. I've released at least 16 updates since then, and some of them were crucial updates.

Secondly, there's only one "official" place to find links to the newest versions of the MTG files, that's at octgn.gamersjudgement.com. Don't trust the files found in torrents that aren't linked from that website.

Thirdly, OCTGN has been under some heavy renovations lately. The "old" version was "OCTGN2" which is the one most of you are already familiar with, from www.octgn.net. The developer for that version has moved on from the project, so you won't find any updates to it since about july 2011 (version 0.10.0.0 was the last build), and the last MTG game definition to support this version was 2.0.16.

Since then, a new development team has continued with the project and relabeled it as OCTGN3, from www.octgn.info. This is the version with a centralized lobby server instead of using an IP network connections.

Now, my newest game definitions starting with 3.0.0 are designed exclusively for OCTGN3 and will not work with OCTGN2. In terms of set definitions (especially the MSE exported ones), you have to make a decision on what version you want to support. If you want to export it for OCTGN2, use 2.0.XX for the Game Version export field, and for OCTGN3 use 3.0.XX. The export template SHOULD work with OCTGN3 as long as you give the correct game version.

Thanks, brine. I didn't even know octgn had moved.

I've downloaded and installed the OCTGN 3 client, the base Magic game definition and the tokens and markers set (and will grab the other set files later).

Where do I find the latest version of the MSE Export Template? Is it v0.2 from 12/2010?

Sorry, I hate to be needy, but getting this working would be a HUGE boon for the M13 development team and I haven't been able to put all the pieces together. I would really appreciate some more help. What am I missing?

hi, brine. There is a new Version of OCTGN (I think you will know it A happy smile ) and there this dont work anymore... can you update this or fix it?
