So, I kinda got the idea for this from the You Make the Card game. I've just never seen flavor text as one of the themes, and I'd like to. So, here we are. You're only given the flavor text, and you can do whatever else you want with the card. But you must match the flavor text.

I'm giving you four flavor texts. Feel free to make a card for two or three of them, or even all four of them, and I'll average the scores together. Or just make one card.

"You don't know what you're talking about."

Many practitioners of the elder magicks argue that "shadows" and "undead" do not equal "bad" and "evil".

It is said that Nora descended from the sky, and birthed the fields of wheat.

"Nature is capricious. Everything dies eventually."

I'll judge in 4 days. Have fun and be creative!

Balance - Very strong. Especially in draw-go. 6 / 10
Creativity - Pretty creative. Not much I can describe, though. 3.5 / 5
Flavor - It fit’s the flavor decently. For a countering mechanic, I would’ve expected something more along the lines of altering the spell’s target, or something. 5 / 10

Nature is capricious. Everything dies eventually.

Balance - This one is better balanced, in my opinion. A little weak, although that happens to be the nature of most “chance” cards like these. You can either 1-for-1 (like any normal burn) or end up 2-for-0ing yourself. 7 / 10
Creativity - That’s some fun stuff right there. 4 / 5
Flavor - I don’t really quite get the name. What does a crumbling fissure have to do with anything? The rest of it is good, though. 5 / 10

Feel free to start the next round whenever you want. You can change the rules up however you want, but you just have to keep it centered on flavor text. You can give as many lines of flavor text as you want, you can allow them to submit as many entries as you want. You don’t even have to average the totals if you don’t want to. Just keep it fair! You can spice it up with your own ideas or whatever you want, but again, keep it centered on the flavor text. I just felt like I had to say this, since I don’t think I explained how this was going to work very well XD.

Also, sorry about not judging yesterday. I ended up going to a party that I was invited to 15 minutes prior. Then I got home and fell asleep.

Sorry but I won't be able to continue the game until tomorrow, you'll have to wait... A sad 'frowny'

I'm not English and I (probably) can't write decent flavor texts. I hope you will accept some quotes from videogames, movies, books, etc. This allows more texts, which means more players!

1) "You will always remember this as the day you almost caught <insert name>!"
[Captain Jack Sparrow, Pirates of the Caribbean.]

2) Ah, it is hard to speak of what it was,
that savage forest, dense and difficult,
which even in recall renews my fear!
[Dante Alighieri, The Divine Comedy. Translation by Allen Mandelbaum]

3) "Did I say no purple dragons? Did I?"
[Madame Mim, The Sword in the Stone]

4) "People simply disappeared, always during the night. Your name was removed from the registers, every record of everything you had ever done was wiped out, your one-time existence was denied and then forgotten. You were abolished, annihilated: vaporized was the usual word."
[George Orwell, 1984, Book 1, Chapter 1]

5) "What man has joined, nature is powerless to put asunder."
[Aldous Huxley, Brave New World]

6) "What God hath joined, let not man put asunder."
[found somewhere in the Bible]

7) "You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain."

RESULTS

I am very very lazy, so I will copy Sewn-Eye's rating system. Balance, creativity and flavor.

Nikeyeia:

Spoiler:
Vaporize 3BBB
Sorcery (R)
Destroy target creature, then exile it, then ban it from the game, then burn it, then slip the ashes down it's controller's pants.
Draw a card.
"People simply disappeared, always during the night. Your name was removed from the registers, every record of everything you had ever done was wiped out, your one-time existence was denied and then forgotten. You were abolished, annihilated: vaporized was the usual word."

Balance: weak, even for an un-serious card. 5
Creativity: nothing special. But a cantrip removal isn't too common. 3
Flavor: Good and funny, except for the last action... that ruins the flavor. 7
15/25

Disposable Hero:

Spoiler:
Moment of Glory 3WW

Split Second
If you would lose the game this turn and you control a legendary creature with converted mana cost 3 or greater, you may instead exile a legendary creature you control with converted mana cost 3 or greater. If you do, shuffle your hand and graveyard into your library. Your life total becomes 15.
"You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain."
- Batman, from The Dark Knight

Balance: this is like a Lich Mirror, but instant and with a strange condition (imposed by flavor text). Why don't you draw cards (maybe equal to the CMC of the sacrificed creature)? And why is the CMC 3 or greater? And why 15 life? However, it's good. 8
Creativity: enough strange and original, in my opinion. 4
Flavor: Your creature dies a hero. But can it live enough to become a villain? Unless I'm missing something, I think that there isn't this part of the flavor text. 7
19/25

HudsonWolf:

Unknow - 2WU

When Unknow enters the battlefield, name a nonland card, then return all cards with the chosen name to their owner's hand.

People simply disappeared, always during the night. Your name was removed from the registers, every record of everything you had ever done was wiped out, your one-time existence was denied and then forgotten. You were abolished, annihilated: vaporized was the usual word.

Balance: Echoing Truth + Meddling Mage. I think it's properly costed. 9
Creativity: Echoing Truth + Meddling Mage. 2
Flavor: Very good. 9
20/25

Parakus:

Spoiler:
Divine Shield - 3WW
Enchantment - Aura
Enchant target non-creature permanent. The enchanted permanent is indestructible.
What God hath joined, let not man put asunder.

Balance: Weak. Indestructibility. And its text should be: "Enchant non-creature permanent. Enchanted permanent is indestructible." 6
Creativity: It's a weaker clone of Indestructibility. This makes me think that you didn't remember that Indestructibility exists Stick out your tongue 2
Flavor: I don't see a connection between "join" and indestructibility. But it's divine, and it can't be destroyed. 8
16/25
Maybe "Enchanted permanent and Divine Shield are indestructible" could be a good way to fix the higher cost and suggest the idea of joining. Also, see the following card for additional comments.

windandfire:

Spoiler:
Human Ingenuity - 2W
Enchantment (U)
Non-creature Artifacts and enchantments you control have protection from green. 8
"What man has joined, nature is powerless to put asunder."

Balance: I think it's good. It's a more limited Fountain Watch. The only problem is that white shouldn't hate green... 9
Creativity: An original and good variation of cards like Absolute Grace. 4
Flavor: Great. There is the same problem with "join" like Parakus's card. But artifacts are actually made by parts joined together. And probably the same is true for enchantments (with magical parts, or something like that). 9 (That's why I didn't penalize Parakus: the same reasoning could be used to justify his card; gods probably join something to create something more evoluted. But this doesn't explain why God can't "join" creatures.)
22/25

Anuttymous:

Spoiler:
Belias, the Gigas 5BB
Legendary Creature - Demon

Belias enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it for each black mana spent on casting it.
BBB: Destroy target creature.
"The battle now is joined, Ramza Beoulve! Behold for true fell pow'r of the Dark!"
-Belias, the Gigas
0/0

Balance: Probably a bit weak, but cards with such cost aren't easy to judge. 8
Creativity: Very original, I like its second ability. That ability makes it impossible to reanimate. 4
Flavor: Nothing wrong. Follows original flavor from the game. 8
20/25

ocb777:

Spoiler:
Images are missing, I don't know why! You can see them in this same page, so it isn't a big problem.
Now images appear. :S

Balance: I suppose Upkeep works like Cumulative Upkeep, except it isn't cumulative XD Maybe a bit too powerful, considering that black doesn't have a lot of creature-stealing, but has Melancholy that blocks a creature for the same CMC and half the upkeep cost (maybe adding some life upkeep cost...). 7
Creativity: It's ok. 3
Flavor: Sadly, I don't know who that man is. This is complementary with Moment of Glory, they should be a split card! Same comment as DH's card. 7
17/25

Balance: Purple is a very powerful and bizarre color. Has dragons with big wings but uncapable of flying. And it's a Shivan Dragon ridden by a Honor Guard, fused with half Ancient Hellkite (A M11 card Stick out your tongue). Still with unusable wings XD
Creativity: Did you forget flying? Do I have to rate a card from a color outside of the mana wheel? Is this madness? Or Sparta?
Flavor: Made me laugh.
Honestly, I can't rate this card. Except for flavor, which I liked. Not very creative, I think.

Balance: It's difficult to judge lands. I think this is quite balanced. Its mana ability is redundant. 8
Creativity: Nice animated land. 4
Flavor: I think it's good. Savage, big, etc. 8
20/25

kiligir:

1W: Target blocking creature is indestructible until end of turn.
1U: Target creature gains shroud until end of turn.
"What man has joined, nature is powerless to put asunder."

Balance: Effective creature protection, with enough mana. 8
Creativity: Great ideas! 4
Flavor: I don't see what's nature's role in that. Nothing can harm this thing. 7

that savage forest, dense and difficult,
which even in recall renews my fear!

--Dante Alighieri, The Divine Comedy, canto I

Balance: Its effect is powerful, on a land. Maybe too powerful. I think it needs at least "target attacking creature", but would still be very powerful. 6
Creativity: Dangerous places can give -X/-Y. Like Quicksand. 3
Flavor: this forest is more difficult, savage, terrible, etc. 9
18/25

I hope my judgement was objective...

Alright, so I've got some flavor text here for cards I'd like to see. Please, just submit one card to make the judging easier. Each submission will be graded on balence, creativity, and overall flavor. I prefer not to use numbered or percent ratings, so I'll just say that the overall flavor will be the biggest factor.

Here are the lines, so have fun!

Ok, a bit late. Sorry about that but here we go.

ATW:

Spoiler:
Lesnian Charge - 2 mana symbol:waman:
Instant
Creatures you control get +2/+2.
Rebound
"May our arrows fly as true as the sunrise, for we attack at dawn." - Lesnian battle song

Balence: May be a bit on the powerful side cost wise, as most cards that give things +2/+2 and have a bonus keyword are CMC 4 or upwards.
Creativity: You don't often see instant +2/+2 combat tricks, especially ones that give a bonus to everything you've got. Nice job.
Flavor: I love how the concept of time is present both in the flavor text and the rebound mechanic. It's not a perfect fit, but it's a poetic one.

Aurora:

Sorcery Common
Scry 3, then reveal the top card of your library. If that card is black, draw two cards. Otherwise, draw a card.
"Down there in the deep, dark things stir. But you already knew that, Beleren?"

Balence: This seems very reasonable, considering other card draw. Scry 3 may be a bit high, but I think it's fine given the downside.
Creativity: A divining top varient mixed with Sedraxis Alchemist. Quite cool to see allied colors added to a varient of an older card.
Flavor: "You already knew something dark was there, didn't you?" I think that's a great fit for the flavor text, it reminds me of the Invasion/Weatherlight Story era cards that oozed with plot.

Icarael:

"Some things are meant to bleed."
-- Athos Vratov, Baron of Draksia
3/3

Balence: Command is a nice balencing ability, and keeps this guy in check. Limiting the counters to vampires was a good choice as well.
Creativity: Nice design. I like how he's made to do whatever the vampires tell him, and only when they command it.
Flavor: Good job here. Since Mindless Null many people have been waiting for a great vampire blooddoll, and each part of this creature captures that very well.

Balence: That's pretty fair for 1 mana symbolWhite mana symbolWhite mana symbol I'd say. It might need some playtesting, but I think it'd be fine that way.
Creativity: It's a very uncommon ability, which is good considering how common the 1 mana symbolWhite mana symbolWhite mana symbol cost is.
Flavor: This card really has some cool flavor between the name and the "archer ability".

BlackEnvy, you've requested that I not rate the reprint so I won't, but for the record, that's pretty cool.

Even though Joz is now banned, he still submitted a card and I feel I need to follow through and judge it. However, he can't win because of his status.

4/7

"Down there in the deep, dark things stir. But you already knew that, Beleren?"

Balence: A large problem in that I can just keep puting my tide counters on the same permanent, and have no downside. Shroud also makes it very difficult to deal with.
Creativity: Unique, but not unpresedented.
Flavor: The flavor text seems like an afterthough, and the whole thing isn't really tied together. It's a kraken that floods the battlefield and not much else.

Balence: Given standard land destruction is on average 3 mana symbolRed mana symbol, the second choice here seems too powerful. I'd like to see it let the opponent choose which mode though, kinda like a new Browbeat. The first mode feels more white as well.
Creativity: I can't name a card that does either, let alone together. Very cool pair of actions there.
Flavor: Nicely conveyed sense of overall flavor. You would have gotten more points if it was closer to white or the first option was a bit different. Great job overall.

Balence: Three mana does not quite fix the Stifle workaround, would have been better at five or higher. Can't figure out why this isn't a pure black.
Creativity: There's not that much new here, and you even forgot a name.
Flavor: I really enjoy realizing how the flavor text implies making a monster from around 12 creatures. You've given personalities and an image to Kylik and Narin without anything more than a text box. Good Job.

Alright then, those were some cool cards. Congradulations to

Stifle wouldn't work. The spell itself has the sacrifice creatures part, not the token. Therefore, either the whole spell is countered, or none of it.
[edit]Not pure black, because it symbolises scientists creating something. Science is usually blue.[/edit]

Alright... here's a twist. If you looked through my Wave of Mutation set, you'll notice a song/poem, Travel Through Eternity, written by none other than the Ætherwalker. For this challenge, your flavor text can be made of any rhyming couplet from the poem, shown below.

Spoiler:
Travel Through Eternity
by Aurora Illumina

Time, place
Where’s the path we have to trace
Left in the white, the fade to black
The rift is closed, we can’t turn back
Here, there
Illusions, they’re everywhere
Night, day
All the time, all the way
Lost, found
Where’d he go? He’s not around
Anytime, anywhere
First you’re here, and now you’re there
Illusion, reality
Traveling through eternity

Above, beyond
In this maze from dusk till dawn
Same place, same time
Tangled threads, which one is mine?
Is it false, or is it true?
Ghosts appear out of the blue
All night, all day
Lost in thought, can’t find my way
Sights to see, things to do
While we’re here, till we get through
Strange, weird
Everything just disappeared
Illusion, reality
Traveling through eternity

The break of day, the fall of night
Suddenly, we reunite
What you see is what you get
Wondering, are we there yet?
What goes up must come down
The path to trace has turned around
Up and down, left and right
Over there, I see a light
So far, so near
In a flash, the rift appeared
At this time, in this place
Through the portal, we escape
From illusion, to reality
We’ve traveled through eternity!

Well, has this thread stalled or something? I probably need to pick some easier flavor text next time (if there is one). Anyways, due to the inactivity, it would probably only be right for a new round to start with a new set of flavor text.

Both cards here have good connections with the flavor text and the ghostly connections with the Æther. It's a tough call here, but I prefer windandfire's card overall; having an ability that's less situational always helps. (When I make cards, I try to avoid things that are very situational.) I do have to say that this is similar to something that was in my design file at one point, but ended up being cut.

So, windandfire, you may go up again.
