Hello there, Mini-Plane set designers. This is a contest devised specifically for YOU (sorry, everyone else). Pichoro has asked me to run this, the Comprehensive Design Competition, as an impartial judge, since I'm not taking part, and am somewhat of an experienced designer myself.
This is a little contest that I have devised in order to give away ONE mythic rare upgrade to the team who wins overall. This, as I'm sure you're aware from previous such awards, allows you to upgrade one of your rares to a mythic rare in the Mini-Plane collaborative set. Again, sorry to people who aren't taking part, but this is a specific contest to give away one of the last remaining Mythic Rare slots.
Now, what's the format of this competition? Unlike some of the other games in which these mythic rares have been given away, the Comprehensive Design Competition tests a wide variety of card design and set design skills. Each team works, as a team, on the challenges that I post in this thread. After 4 rounds, 4 different challenges, the team I judge to have submitted the best work overall is gifted the Mythic rare. Now, how you split up the work within your team is of no interest to me; you could alternate doing the challenges, or work on them all together, or just let one person do it all, but your team needs to have submitted all 4 entries by the closing date in order to stand a chance of winning the Mythic.
Now, how do you submit entries? Well, all the entries need to be sent to (sorry about the reused email address), and every entry needs to have your team name on it. I'll emphasise that, since I don't want to have to be chasing entries around; EVERY email you send to that address has to have your team name on it, preferably in the subject line. These are the team names i'll be using, stolen from the first-post of the main set design thread:
Team "Sky Grove"
Now, how are the individual rounds going to work? Well, when I'm ready to post the next round, I'll post it both here, and as a reminder in the main thread. From that point on, you are free to submit entries for that challenge. Now, since I don't intend for this competition to take too long, I won't necessarily wait for all of the teams to submit before posting the next round. Don't worry, that doesn't mean you've missed the deadline; it just means that you can also start working on the next round. I hope that I won't have to post a final deadline, but if it drags on too long once all 4 rounds have been posted, then I will. Ideally, I'll simply start the judging once every team has submitted all four rounds.
The format of each round will be quite simple; I'll post a simple design challenge (if any of you remember The Great Designer Search, it will be a similar style to that), and some pointers about how I'm going to mark it. You are then free to submit your entry for that challenge, right up until the final deadline (if one is necessary) and yes, that means you can wait until all four challenges are posted before submitting anything. Nevertheless, I will allow revisions to your entry up to a certain extent; don't feel like you have to hold them all back to get the most time possible to work on them; submitting as soon as you are pretty sure you are done is preferable, as it will, to some extent, let me gauge the progress you are making! I will be marking down in the thread which teams have submitted entries to which rounds, although the entries themselves will be kept secret until after the competition is over.
Once all six teams have either submitted entries to all four rounds or conceded, I will judge the quality of each teams submissions. The team I judge to have done best overall will win the mythic rare slot for their plane. Just a quick note: your submissions don't need to be cards from your set, or even remotely related; this is just a card design competition for the purposes of handing out the mythic!
If you have any questions about the format of the competitions, feel free to ask here in the thread.
Once all of the teams have registered their acknowledgement of this contest, I'll post the first challenge. Participating designers, once you've read and understood this, just post an okay in this thread.
