Adding Multiple Cards

I read this article yesterday and urge you to do the same. As the title states, I would like a reconsideration of the previous request of adding multiple cards that are not basic lands or basic snow lands so we, as designers, can create sets similar to how WotC does. I will start a topic about this in "Card Showcase", which I want to be stickied, if no one else does, which means I, herewith, give permission to start a topic about proper set design to anyone who wishes to take such action before I get back from work.

I'm not really sure what you

I'm not really sure what you mean... That was a great article, I read it yesterday too, very useful, but I fail to see what it has to do with MSE's functionality regards adding multiple cards... I mean, if you want a 'set template' that has one of all the correctly coloured cards in it, just make one and save it as a read-only file... then just start with that whenever you start a set.

Also, I fail to understand what you are talking about with that last bit... no-one needs your permission to start a thread, and asking for a sticky is rude. And most decent designers here strive to do 'proper' set design for serious sets, I don't know what you are really talking about.

TyrantSinner, I can tell you

TyrantSinner, I can tell you now, your request is planned, but will almost certainly not be fulfilled in 0.3.8. That is just how it is. We only allow the addition of basic lands by this method because that's all that MSE can do right now.

Is it so hard to in the meantime, add like 10 cards, highlight them, and copy and paste to the right number? *sigh*

And what does having those blank cards all present have to do with proper set design? Add cards as you need them, and take advantage of the stats screen to track your progress. The moment you add all those cards, your stats screen goes down the crapper, as you'll no longer be able to accurately view rarity distributions. Go take advantage of the tools given to you.

Okay

I was indirectly hinting at the addition of a "Play test" template and/or game file. I included the mention of a "Play test" game file because the template is completely different from the official card template that it may well need its own game file to define the differences between it and the official card template.

I would like to see the ability to export custom Yu-Gi-Oh! cards/sets to YVD as well. However, you might want to talk to MykeXero from XeroCreative about it first.

I'm sure that we wouldn't,

I'm sure that we wouldn't, and shouldn't, need a separate game file to make playtest cards like those seen here: https://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom/arcana/444 or here http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom/arcana/371

But I agree that there should be one. Pich's template is fine, and mine is really only supposed to be used for printing and slipping into sleeved cards, but it would be nice to have as close an approximation to a 'real' old-style one as possible.

Don't hint in the request thread or the bug thread. I'm not a psychic, and I'm not your boyfriend/girlfriend. If you want something, say what you mean.

Absolutely not. If it was its own game file, you'd make a card in the playtest style, and then you couldn't copy and paste it into a Magic game file, nor could you change it to Magic without doing some strange things to the set file that really aren't supposed to be done, and aren't recommended. You'd make an entire set in playtest form, then you'd have to retype the whole thing in a real Magic set file. I can't imagine why anyone would want that.

For that matter, I can't imagine why anyone would want to develop a set in the playtest style. MSE automatically renders and updates your cards as you edit them; that's something WotC just didn't have the luxury of originally. They do now, thanks to us. Did you realize that the cards being shown in the article you linked to were made using MSE, TyrantSinner? WotC would never admit that, but look at things like the copyright line and the rarity symbol; how about the forced paintbrush, despite the fact that they typed in "Illus."?. That's MSE you're looking at; and apparently they used our program to help out with Master's Edition 2.

Finally, there is a playtest template. http://mtg.pifro.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=169

Now, granted, it is lackluster. But then, I'm upgrading it. I even shared an improved version with Idle Muse last night, although he seems to be keeping tight-lipped on it. Where the old version has a huge empty space where art normally goes, the new version will feature the date and time the card was created on, the date and time it was last modified on, and a rudimentary "code". My code isn't as good as the one WotC is using yet, but its a start. It'll be offered for download following the release of 0.3.8. The date and times will be automatic and uneditable.

It will also feature a traditional copyright line, and I'm considering shrinking it a bit too.

The thing about the "real" "old style" playtest template WotC has shown us at times is that first, there so many varieties. But then, there's also space being wasted by repetetive information. Do you really need the name twice? Do you really need the set's name and a code for the set? Very inefficient.

Sorry

Sorry, Pich.

There, however are problems with your play test template. For example, the rarity does not go on the type line in the official play test template, which is in the article I linked to earlier.

True enough, but you have to

True enough, but you have to set the rarity somehow. It is more reasonable to have a visible word to tell you where to edit the rarity, then to have an invisible field that nobody will be able to find.

Mine doesn't look like that.

Mine doesn't look like that. What version of the program are you using? What's your operating system? Have you made any custom modifications to your templates?
