To usher in my new set, the new year, and my new account, I'm glad to present Grand Prix Arcanum! A two-phase tournament that will be played on LackeyCCG using some of my better sets (sorry to all you die-hard Cretio Created fans out there).

To play on LackeyCCG, you'll need to download the program, open it, go to the Plugin tab at the top, copy the following, and hit the "Paste AutoUpdate URL" button. Note: this is a separate plugin from MSEM.

The plugin will download, and you'll be all set to go.

"What's all this multi-phase nonsense? And why does Phase 1 last for over a month and a half???"

Here's how it will work:

Phase One Jan.10th - Feb.28th (Players can still join during this phase)

This is the testing phase. Where you're encouraged to make decks, take them apart, modify them, make brand new decks, etc etc. There's very little to loss in this phase, but hopefully enough to gain that people will still be encouraged to play and strive to win. Throughout this entire phase, you can play a match against any one else participating in the tournament, using any decklist. You can change between matches (not between games!), or stick to the same one to get more experience with it under your belt. Have at least one of the participants report the matches to me, either in this thread or via Discord. I'll record the results, and at the end, your win/loss ratio will determine the seeding for Phase Two (players who have played less than three matches will default to 0/0, to prevent someone winning a single match and then just chilling). Use this time to brew! See what kind of strategies are strong, what kind of countermeasures there are, and just experiment in general.

During this phase, you can face any opponent you want at any time, and you can face the same opponent multiple times. Try to spread your matches against a single player out around other opponents instead of back-to-back-to-back with one person, but if it happens it happens. Again, there isn't too much riding on this Phase, so I'm not going to start laying down a bunch of restrictions. The MSEM Discord is the easiest way to organize matches, but the forums also work in a pinch.

Phase Two Mar.1st - ???

Phase Two is for all the marbles. For this phase, you'll need to decide on a decklist and DM/PM it to me (either on the forums or via Discord) before the 1st of March. No waiting until you can see what decks other people ended up sticking with so you can try to metagame them. At this point I'll finalize the Challonge bracket, seeding according to the results of Phase One, and then begins the double elimination tournament. For each match you'll be encouraged to finish within three days of being matched against your opponent, though I'm willing to grant extensions for extenuating circumstances that may come up. Make it to the end and eliminate all your opponents, and you'll be crowned victorious!

How To Participate

Sign up on the Challonge page. That's it. Though publicly posting your interest in this thread would be appreciated, to make it easier for others to gauge how much interest there is.

If you ever need to contact me for anything, such as questions, you can ask in here, PM me, or message me on Discord (@HerziQuerzi#2178).

The Manabase
There's a supplemental set in here with the HQL code, which exists only to ensure all the dual cycles are full instead of allies getting more than enemies or vice versa.

Text Version
Starved Lands
Filter Terms:
• Set contains “HQL”
• Text contains “becomes tapped”

ex.
Arctic Mine
Land - Plains Swamp
(Tap symbol: Add White mana symbol or Black mana symbol to your mana pool.)
Whenever Arctic Mine becomes tapped, you lose 1 life unless you control two or more basic lands.

Provides untapped color fixing, but reckless use will quickly eat away at your life total. The more of them you run, the harder it will be to get the basics necessary to stop the life loss.

When used with Check Lands:
You’ll be drowning in untapped color fixing, but good luck ever getting the basics needed to stop the life loss. Likely best to go heavier on the check lands, with starved lands simply acting as enablers.

Check Lands
Filter Terms:
• Set contains “HQL”
• Text contains “you may reveal”

ex.
Choked Estuary
Land
As Choked Estuary enters the battlefield, you may reveal an Island or Swamp card from your hand. If you don't, Choked Estuary enters the battlefield tapped.
Tap symbol: Add Blue mana symbol or Black mana symbol to your mana pool.

The most straight forward of the dual land cycles. Run too many and you won’t have the lands in hand necessary to have these enter untapped, so avoid being greedy (unless you don’t care about entering untapped and just want the fixing).

When used with Trip Fetches:
Don’t, most likely. It’s anti synergy. The fetches can’t grab them and the checks will have less to reveal.

Trip Fetches
Filter Terms:
• Set contains “HQL”
• Text contains “Search”

ex.
Daunting Skyline
Land
Tap symbol, Sacrifice Daunting Skyline: Search your library for a Plains or Swamp card and put it onto the battlefield tapped. Then shuffle your library.

Everyone loves fetches. While these will always have whatever they grab enter tapped, at least they don’t cost you life to use? They’re bad evolving wilds if you don’t use provide typed non-basics for them to grab.

When used with Starved Lands:
Provides near perfect fixing and allows for 4-5 colour decks, if you’re fine having all your lands enter tapped. Make sure to have basics on hand to grab eventually to stop losing life.

Vivid Lands
Filter Terms:
• Set contains “MMC”
• Name contains “Vivid”

ex.
Vivid Grove
Land
Vivid Grove enters the battlefield tapped with two charge counters on it.
Tap symbol: Add Green mana symbol to your mana pool.
Tap symbol, Remove a charge counter from Vivid Grove: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.

For those who dream of 4-5 colour, but don’t like losing life along the way. And basically no one else. Maybe there’s a weird proliferate deck with these? Prismatic Leyline works well with them, I guess. These are here just so I can accurately say I included all the colour fixing cycles.

No synergy paragraph for you, because they have zero interaction with the other cycles.

Thanks for the free bump tolikkk, but I'm not in the market for drugs at the moment. Try the current COTW; they always seem high in there.

EDIT: This made more sense before the spambot got deleted.

This looks interesting. I've never played a match with MSE cards on Lackey, so this should be interesting?

Much of my time is taken by classes at the moment, but I'll try to get some practice matches in before the end of the month. Eep.

My username on Challonge is Yzjdriel.

Please ignore the clearly insane electrical engineer behind the instrument panel. His meds won't wear off until Thur- it's Friday?? Already?! Oh dear.
