Tired of your daily routine? Feeling like your slaving hours at work are not paying up? Want to take a vacation and feel the freedom? Well have I got news for you! Medranos is waiting, and you can travel there to participate in the first ever Korakhos Standard tournament!

Explore the Eternal Fronds, where you can take all kinds of pictures to brag to your friends. Take a swim in the crystalline waters of Krallyna. Visit Anastra, the haunted gorgon castle, or enjoy roasting marshmallows off of Gondros' back. Go now, before the Lahessi destroy the entire world and leave it as nothing more than a barren wasteland!

The time has finally come! Now that the Iscathia block has rotated out of my standard and it no longer haunts me, I've decided to throw a Pro Tour. In order to participate, you must build a deck with a minimum of 60 cards that can belong to any of the following sets (set files can be found in the header of the threads):

Submit your decklists to me so I can check them beforehand (don't worry, my decklist will be public to everyone). If you want to participate but you're not sure what to build don't worry, I will be uploading a few articles on different deck archetypes in the format.

So if you want in, just let me know down below, soon I'll have the Lackey plugin so we can play online.

Don't mind me, I'm just going to get this done same-day. Turns out, 5 sets is easier than 20 sets, especially when two of those sets are fully scripted already.
Here's your plugin!

(Also, I'm in)

The Archetypes of Korakhos Standard Part I

In order to prepare for the tournament, I've been looking for possible deckbuilding ideas I'd like to share with you, but before we begin, let's look at the mana base.

Korakhos Standard mana base

With five shockfetches (courtesy of Timespiraled) and five dual checks, this formats has one of the most versatile mana bases:

Fetches and duals

If you need some extra fixing that also has late-game value as card draw these ten lands should help you:

As seems to be compulsory in every official Mtg standard there's a functional reprint of evolving wilds:

And this particular land, which just got a lot greater with the addition of proliferate to the format:

And finally, some artifacts that also help you with the fixing:

Artifact fixing

Now let's see what archetypes I could think of this time:

Boros Rebels

Tides of War brought back the beloved rebels. In this strategy, you should look for a fast-paced aggro deck in which you make full exploit of the tribe. While building your deck, you should think of using these cards:

And you should particularly consider this specific rebel who can get you whoever you want:

Fortunately (or rather, intentionally) most rebels are either Soldiers of Warriors, which goes great with Khaliz-Dorahn's tribal cards, as well as with a few gems from Medranos:

Tribal Goodies

And in case you need to push some extra aggro:

Face is the place

Golgari infect

Awakening brought back infect, everyone's favorite mechanic! With this deck, you should use black's infectors while using green's pumps to push for as much infect damage as you can to get your opponent to 10 poison asap.

Don't forget that most infect creatures don't have that much power, which makes them excellent encourage targets:

Throw in a couple of proliferators and you can go spread the disease all around:

And that's it for now, next time I'll try to cover three more strategies (probably including Selesnya tokens and Sultai Self-mill)

Count me in. Hopefully I'll do better this time than in the MSE Standard tourney I was in.

@everyone: thanks a ton for supporting this

The Archetypes of Korakhos Standard Part II

Sultai Self-Mill

This archetype really highlights the whole graveyard theme my latest sets have been showing. The strategy is simple. Step one, fill up your graveyard:

Step two: fill your deck with cards that use your graveyard as a resource:

Dead but not gone

Step three: throw in some high value reanimation targets:

Bring me to life

Step four: success!

Izzet Spells

Even though this archetype was more predominant in the previous standard, there are still some interesting cards that keep it alive, especially since Khaliz-Dorahn is still on the table. Instants and sorceries are your friends, and so are your creatures if they care for instants and sorceries!

Selesnya tokens

My favorite archetype of all time. Even though the rotation of Core Set K2015 took away most of the token love in the format, there's still enough token love to sustain a deck. First flood the board:

Once your board dominance is established, pump the hell out of your dudes for maximum value!

Bonus: Monored Quirkiness

Through the past years I've designed quite a handful of chaotic, quirky, just-for-the-lulz red cards, if you actually manage to pull a competitive deck off with those, then you'll have my uttermost respect:

DISCLAIMER: I strongly recommend against this deck.

That's it for today's archetypes, as you see the format has quite a diverse catalog for strategies. For next time, since most of what I've shown focuses on aggro, I'll try to get some control alternatives as well (I'm already brewing an Esper control deck).

@Herzi: thanks, welcome to the club! (PS: for my mental sanity's sake I forbid you from using any fog in the format Winking smiley )

The Archetypes of Korakhos Standard Part III

Welcome to the last installment of Korakhos Standard's archetypes, today I'll cover Esper control, Monoblue Wizards and Temur elementals:

Esper control

You know, for a guy who hates control as much as I do, I've found quite a handful of cards that can make this archetype work. The main idea behind this deck is to win an attrition war by first denying your opponent anything that even resembles a board:

Once you've ran them out of gas, you can start bringing in your own threats to the table, or you can even begin to use your opponent's resources against them:

Bomb Voyage

If you ensure the game will go long you have nothing to fear!

Monoblue Wizards

This deck is exactly what the name suggests, use blue's counterspells to keep your opponents at bay and pick from the suite of Wizards the format has to offer (yes, I know, the 4 CMC slot is pretty saturated):

This deck also has an infinite combo potential, given by the following cards:

Think you can pull it off?

Temur Elementals

Last but not least, the format also offer some nice tribal tools to make an Elemental deck:

Bonus track: Sideboard suggestions

I obviously don't know which strategy is the most dominant (that's actually one of the purposes of this tournament) but I believe some cards should make the sideboard in most decks. First let's start with this guy:

The reason this guy actually exists is because I knew that with Encourage in TOW and the counter theme of Medranos it would be interesting to have a card like this to turn the tide if they're getting out of control. If you're playing black, I believe it would be a nice addition to your sideboard.

I also have a couple of artifacts that could fit in most sideboards thanks to their flexibility

Finally, a few assorted goodies:

Sloppy Seconds

The Banlist

After debating a lot with myself, I decided to be sensible and preemptively ban Deadly Manipulation until I fix it:

That will be the only card banned in this tournament.

So that's it, I'll wait for two days before launching the tournament so you can submit your decklists and to see if there's any late subscribers. Please let me know you've read this, if not I'll send you a PM later today just to be sure

1 Battlewise Commander
4 New Order's Mobilizer
2 Griffin Flock
1 Lahessi Overlord
4 Oath of the Earthenlore
3 Whisper of the Woods
2 Heart of Medranos
3 Sprout
2 Symbiotic Wolf
1 Memekri Spawnlands
1 Wurmbrood Forest
8 Forest

2 Contempt for the Unnatural
2 Lumi Orthodox
2 Sealed Mausoleum
2 Deliver from Evil
1 Purifying Priest

Due to the odd number of participants, the tournament will be an all vs. all one. Once your decklists are accepted, you can challenge whoever you want and you'll earn points for the matches. A win is 3 points, a tie (if it's even possible to tie) is 1 and a loss is 0. Whoever gets the most points at the end will be the winner and will have byes if I ever host another tournament (that's the only prize I can offer Stick out your tongue )

Beat Herzi 2-0. I spent the entire match playing around things that didn't exist which meant I played a lot more controlly than I had to.

Lost 0-2 to Wind, so that's all of my matches. Thanks to all who participated and played against me. Soon I'll revamp the format with some fixes to cards I've seen around that need nerfs.
