Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest!

Here we go, competitors: our hundred and seventy-seventh challenge!

The winner of the "Be Slightly Evil" poll were Cajun (left) and thehuw (right) with...

And the challenge issued by one of our winners was...

thehuw wrote:
Who doesn't love modal spells? I certainly do! They're a very straightforward way to add some flexibility to a deck without compromising on power. We now have Charms for every monocolor, pair, shard, and wedge, and Commands for every monocolor and allied pair - that's a lot of options!

One thing we haven't seen much of so far, though, is the modal principle applied to other kinds of card. So your goal this week is as follows: Design a permanent card with a modal ability that is not an enters-the-battlefield trigger. It can be activated, triggered, even static if you can find a way to make that work - but it must be attached to an artifact, creature, enchantment, planeswalker, or land.

To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render.
Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the bottom/right of your original post.

And now, time to begin the challenge!

Best of luck, competitors!

As Photobucket wants me to pay 400$/year to link to my images, I'll relocate all renders.

@thehuw, if we go of, Bushi Tenderfoot, Fire Juggler, Spitting Slug, Giant Shark, and Infinite Authority's oracle text, when another subject is mentioned after the first subject, the first subject can no longer be referred to as "it", as well as if the sentence ends and another one is started, instead it must be referred to by name.

This is because instead of just being blocked, a second subject that could be interpreted as "it" is mentioned. Or that since the sentence ended the subject does not carry over. I mention both reasons because I am uncertain if "each creature blocking it" counts as a subject(I think it does, because of the complete lack of cards that address this), but regardless the second clause still prevents it from being referred to this way. Plus as card game designers we can't leave loose ends, we can't just assume that the player should intuitively understand our intentions, especially when it can be avoided, and even with out going over the eight line limit.

@Temata: I think you want it to say "At the beginning of your upkeep, sacrifice another creature or discard a card. If you can't, you lose the game." because right now, you can choose either option regardless of if you have other creatures or cards in hand, because they're chosen effects and not costs or required actions.

@spazlaz, for uncouple I assume this is an additional cost, however I am wondering is this intended as an additional cost for the ability or the artifact? I would assume the ability itself, however with out paying that cost the other costs are a bit too low for this ability. It might be good to make it cost two mana to activate regardless because this is repeatable, and while cards such as Stronghold Assassin do exist, they are still much weaker than this card in its present state, since it is more versatile, less prone to remove and colourless. Of course other adjustments might have to be made, like lowering the uncouple cost to 3. Just some thoughts.
