PATH OF SHADOWS

Set 2 of 2 - Imperial Legacies Block

Path of Shadows is undergoing set review and will be released shortly!

COMING CHANGES TO IMPERIAL LEGACY BLOCK

Spoiler:

Lady Kiyomi was simply too oppressive when paired with her own creatures. Now triggering only off the opponent's creatures, she will allow you to keep them around a little longer in exchange.

Dragonwall Samurai was simply too big for its power in limited. It is now a 3/2 and should not be as big of a blow out anymore.

Excuse me, but where can be Inscribe activated from? Hand, graveyard, stack?

I just dont understand why people pay thousands for a piece of cardboard.
Why just don't play some casual? Gee, it isn't even fun to play with, and especially against.

Poisonous has been out since Imperial Legacies. I don't want -1/-1 counters in the same set as +1/+1 counters and I certainly didn't want Infect.

Well, I like poisonous in this set. Perfect use of a futureshifted mechanic.

Magic and pixie dust Sakon. Nah just use the font option to change the font. Worked for me.

Vehicles were introduced in the Kaladesh block, enjoying general popularity amongst the playerbase. The enjoyment is understandable; Vehicles provide an interesting layer of strategy to M:TG, giving you the opportunity to trade your ability to attack with your other creatures for either an above-curve offence or a well-timed, powerful defence.

But what if there were even more strategic dimensions in Vehicles?

Introducing Animus

As a land equivalent to Vehicle, Animus gives the player the potential of free creatures at the cost of yet another conundrum: save my mana base for more profit and better reactability, or expend everything in my power for a manouver of high risk and high reward? Whatever you choose, you can be sure that Animus will make playing custom Magic here at MSE engage your mind.

Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.

The following story is based on real events that probably never happened:

There once was a boy, let's call him Matt, who realized he was really into a particular trading card game, that game was Magic the Gathering. Even though he started as a player, Matt decided that there had to be more to that game than just consuming it, and so he took another step and began adding to it. After successfully reinventing the cube draft concept by delighting everyone with his Vault Masters Cube, Matt decided he would try a new challenge: he would go ahead and design not only a set but an entire block!

That was when Matt's first problem began. Unlike a cube, a non-powered set had to have a limited size of mechanics, what would he choose? What were the mechanics that best conveyed the flavor of his world? After a few days struggling, he chose them, but there was a problem. He wanted poison counters in his set, but he didn't want infect because that would not allow him to have +1/+1 counters, what would her do?!

The answer hit him swiftly and painlessly: poisonous! He'd take Future Sight's abandoned mechanic and explore it in ways Wizards had yet to. And so Matt added poisonous to his set and he was happy.

But his joy didn't last him long. After realizing that another user by the name of Korakhos had used infect in one of his set, he realized he'd make the wrong choice, but he couldn't back out now! Changing poisonous for infect would mean he'd have to do tons of changes to an already changed set file, and that would be a nightmare, but how could he introduce infect into his set without it contradicting the existence of +1/+1 counters?

Matt was haunted for many sleepless nights without finding a solution to this soul-crushing problem, until suddenly it hit him. The answer was so easy! It had been there all along, and it was beautiful! He conceived the idea and decided to sleep on it, and that night a name came to him in dreams, a name that would change the way people saw Poisonous for generations to come!

The name was Mautakesh

A few years later, Matt would grow to be the president of the United States.
