See the Mersalen design page for more information on the plane. Here is the creative thread as well for reference. Current set file.

This task will be to design the Black/green mana symbol and Blue/red mana symbol legendary creature.

Black/green mana symbol Leader of the Anura tribe. She is an expert at keeping to the shadows and other hiding places offered by the marsh. She is a fierce hunter who can also use the Anura's foresight in battle to anticipate her opponent's moves. Generally she leads the Anura in the idea of isolationism and does not want them involved in the affairs of the other tribes; as a result other tribes don't know much about them and none of her people can be seen integrated in the various cities or fleets across the ocean.

Blue/red mana symbol The surrakar alpha leader is both fierce and brutish. The sarrukar all are quite powerful but he is the fastest and strongest of them all. He became alpha of the tribe after dueling and defeating the previous alpha then feeding his body to a frenzy of sharks. He also has a unique bond to them that he keeps both fed and hungry enough to use to his bidding. Despite gaining his stature through such brutal means, he is actually quite mischievous and likes to meddle with the ship-dwellers just for fun.

  • Legendary creatures: Frog and Surrakar
  • Must be hybrid Black/green mana symbol and Blue/red mana symbol
  • Rare
  • Frogs have a theme of returning to your hand for an effect so it should either do or interact with that mechanic.
  • Surrakar are the pingthirst tribe so it should do some type of pinging, evasion, or benefit when damage is dealt that turn.
  • I left names open intentionally.

It's spelt 'surrakar'.

The tokens are Suya's sharks, btw.

Doesn't Neirmaxa's abilities create a huge loop? Sure you need mana but seems like it would be to repetitive. Of course I loved doing the same thing with Wirewood Symbiote in EMA limited...

Suya seems interesting although seems like quite a lot of potential value out of a one drop. I like that you can "repurpose" the temp draw effect.

Well, Neirmaxa costs five mana to bounce itself at will and removes all counters from it to do so, whereas if you try to bounce a cheaper creature with it and your opponent doesn't want you to do that they can just remove Neirmaxa. Of course, we could add a cost to the ability if it's worrying.

Similarly, if Suya seems like he'd lead to too much value for one mana, you could just scale up the costs and the P/T so it's costlier but tougher P/T wise.

No, no, no. I agree that the ability isn't too worrying (though weird in monoblack), but "your opponent can remove Neirmaxa" is a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad train of logic to follow.

I really like that Surrakur. The Frog doesn't play well with other frogs...

So we are going to go with Frogger and Surraker Dude although this card is all red so instead I was thinking something like this:

Whenever a noncreature source you control deals damage to a player, exile top card...blah blah
Whenever a creature an opponent controls is dealt damage by a source you control, tap that creature., It doesn't untap next untap step.
