Mersalen Task 16a: Arcuns Unite!

This task will be to design an uncommon for each of the ten archtypes. These uncommons will serve as a card to push forward those archtypes. Each will be hybrid of the color pair of that arcthype. Here is a list of the archtypes.

  • White/blue mana symbol: Tempo
  • Blue/black mana symbol: Mill
  • Black/red mana symbol: Ransack
  • Red/green mana symbol: Ramp stompy
  • Green/wite mana symbol: Toughness matters
  • White/black mana symbol: Tokens/ghosts
  • Blue/red mana symbol: Pingthirst
  • Black/green mana symbol: Enters/leaves battlefield
  • Red/white mana symbol: Vehicle multiple pilots
  • Green/blue mana symbol: Gleam

Design Guidance

  • Can be any card type.
  • Must be uncommon.
  • Must be hybrid.
  • Supports the archtype for that color pair. High synergy, not something that is "good in any deck".

If a spell or ability would put one or more cards from an opponent’s library into his or her graveyard, put that many cards plus two instead.

Ziolang - How many triggers would you get from this though? Even dedicated vehicle decks only run like 2-4 in limited. Maybe it should be an attack trigger instead?

Alex - Honestly don't know how to evaluate this. Seems either to reliant on other cards or maybe too good if support is there.

Mario - Hmmm I think we might have enough tappers already. These are interesting effects with things like vehicles around.

Just realized I could probably just:

Whenever ~ crews a vehicle, create a 1/1 [whatever tokens we have] creature token tapped and crewing that vehicle. (The token adds its power toward the vehicle's crew cost.)

Flash
When ~ enters the battlefield, target creature becomes the color of your choice until end of turn.

The deckhand could probably just create a token when tapped. You can crew a vehicle even if it is already crewed so that part is really not needed.

The arcuns should usually be payoff cards not enablers. Things like the deckhand and aurora fish enable a strategy but don't push you in the direction to play it.

Some notes from cards in the file already:

Dangerous Waters seems like it would actually be great for the Blue/red mana symbol card if it triggers at EOT or something.

Might be to potent though.

Whenever a creature ETB under your control, gain 1 life.
Whenever a creature you control dies, put a +1/+1 counter on ~.

Seems to do what we want for the theme. Gets both triggers when you emerge.

Pretty good payoff card. Although I think flash could be replaced with something that does more with a potential beater. I think some type of evasion or maybe hexproof. Could use the flying when attacking ability although that steals from the frogs (could be a frog actually).
