This is something that I like to do and I thought I'd invite other people to try it.

1. Pick a magic card
2. Take away everything except the art
3. Build a new card based on that art

Be as different as you can from the original but try to keep the synergy between the art and the card. It's also a good idea to say which card the art is from somewhere in your post.

And finally, an example

Spoiler:
Art = Kira, Great Glass-Spinner (Betrayers of Kamigawa)

What exactly is that symbol? It reminds me of both
the capital building of Austin, Tx and the Alamo of Tx.

Mark Rosewater hasn't responded yet.

No, it's nothing really, It just my first experiment in building a symbol by ....ehem, may i say plagiarizing someone in MTGsalvation? Really, it was my first attempt, and this guy symbol is simple enough to try.

I do apologize If somebody in this forum actually create that symbol first, but the design is simple and elegant enough to try, and hence...my symbol.

since this is an artshifting thread, let give this an artshifting card:

art = agonizing memory, tenth edition

I do believe it was originally mine, the symbol from the first set of my Ancient Worlds block, which focussed on a kind of middle-eastern arabic setting. But by all means use it, I have no problems with that. (It does look better a little larger, though, so you can see the pinnacle better).

@ Hellfire:

Wow, Even the Odds as a blue and black cards. Really nice.

@ Lordpenguin

Thanks lordpenguin, anyway, I still don't understand 'coherent ability' when you say in my cardshow thread a few days ago...

I always thought Mahamoti Djinn looked like a red card and you've done it brilliantly.

My newest:

Oh yeah, coherent abilities are ones that work well together with each other and with the flavour. Like, fear and flying aren't coherent because both are evasion abilities - most of the time one or the other will do. Coherence is also to do with the flavour. It doesn't make sense, for instance, to give a fairy trample - mechanically it is fine, but it just seems wrong.

Sorry about hijacking this thread for a post, if I get some time I'll post an artshifted card to make up.

1. Sorry but I didn't realise that editing my post would change the order like that. I can never resist correcting my own spelling mistakes.

2. Sensei, the flavor text thing is awesome, three cheers for Un-Sets!

Spoiler:

The art is from Pilgrim of Justice, and it violates your rules but I couldn't help adding Pilgrim of Bread on. The bread loaf inserted into the art is not a crappy attempt at removing the background from a picture of a loaf of bread. It has been intentionally made to look like it is glowing.

artwork = tundra kavu, apocalypse

Zz'gashi runner is actually a creature that never seen in starcraft universe, where zergling mutate from. Well, I imagine Tundra Kavu is the ancestor of all zergling.
