It's not a cost though.

@WindyDelcarlo - Once again MysticalOctopus got my back. The ability word doesn't have a cost. It's a cute visual reminder. All potential cards could function fine without saying potential, but because there are so many of them it creates a cute thematic touch to give them a linking ability word.

Update 1.5

I'm not dead, and I still love this project. Just been a little busy.

Adjusted some formatting, still trying to catch all my errors, the vanilla set file is up for others to help if they can.

All of the elemental bursts now cost XX instead of 1X, for flavor reasons.

All token creating cards have been changed to use create.

All cards with Æ have been changed to the new Ae.

Purple falls between Blue and Black on the color wheel:

Going by your description of the color's mentality, I would describe Purple as falling right between Blue and Red.

Red and blue arent next to each other, though.

Yep, that's the problem with this. But mentality-wise, his Purple is still closer to Red than to Black.

Maybe I'm just not seeing it but how is the Absorb mechanic different from just giving the creature additional toughness?

Absorb is different from just additional toughness becauste it would be a form of "reactive dynamic additional toughness" if it weren't for the fact that -1/-1 bonuses kill creatures regardless of having absorb or not.

Edit: And yes, it can stop deathtouch and lifelink too.

@TempestCloud, Simonbarsinister, & MadLuckKingg - Absorb prevents damage from EACH source. It makes it harder for colors like red to chain spells to kill, or green multiblocking.

@Tarvoc - Red and purple may act the same sometimes, but for very different reasons. Red is brash and quick to action because it doesn't think, purple just doesn't care what you think. It has decided what it wants, an your opinion be damned, but purple still thinks things through. Purple is also often devoid of emotion, as opposed to reds overabundance of emotion.

If you word it like that, it sounds very much like black, yeah. I guess it differs from black in what it wants.

Based on the prerelease and what I've seen looking over the set, I'm curious about one thing: Are there meant to be other monocolor Purple strategies in this set besides Ersatz tribal? A lot of the Purple I did seemed mostly geared to play into the tendency to run 2 colors/3 colors with lots of fixing in Limited, which meant it complemented a lot of colors well but didn't exactly seem to assemble a coherent strategy when it was by itself.

I also think Ersatzes (or maybe Cultists) ought to feature in Gentrification somehow, because as is I feel like the signature tribals of Purple are somewhat lacking in options besides the "go wide with Absorb" strategy.

Wow! That was a pain in the butt. After what Photobucket did I had to relink ALL the images in this thread. I think I'm finally done, but if any of them are missing please let me know.

Wait, how'd you get a sixth color of mana to work on Planesculptors? I didn't realize it had the framework for that

@jacqui-pup - It runs drafts fine, I do have trouble viewing the cards as a spoiler though.

I still have the same question regarding strategies for Purple as I did several posts up and several months ago. Stick out your tongue

@ZephyrPhantom - Mono purple can run Ersatz tribal, but it also has a pretty great permanent control suite that can gunk up or lock down the board.
