Have you ever made a really cool card, but had nowhere to post it? I certainly have. So I thought, "Why not make a thread where people can post their random designs? There isn't really anywhere to post them right now, and I want to share my dumb stupid weird awesome cards with people!"

So post your random cards that you want to show off but don't fit into any particular project/contest/other thing on the forum! It'll be fun! I promise*!
*promises may or may not be expired.

Maniac was wonky and pushing the limits of black as it was, but I liked him too much to axe him for good. Path was one of the first designs for what would become a -1/-1 counter set so it had to go, but I'm sure it has a home (and a new name) somewhere.

Holy cow that OP mind's reap. Ancient Prejudice is also pretty pushed for a Common. 2 for 1 isn't normally something that cheap either. Also dubiously Red mana symbol. And hopefully that Ambush Vampire is a 0/1 because that's also pretty good lol. The redundant evasion and the outdated landwalk and intimidate also make that Green mana symbol card a little offensive to hardcore Maro-ists Stick out your tongue Other than those those cards I think Abattoir Skaab is good.

@MrShiny. That card's very cool, but I'd put it at Uncommon and I think that's where that original 1 mana symbolRed/green mana symbol card belongs as well. I like the increased color weight on your card though so it's not just an auto-include in Red mana symbol or Green mana symbol.

Ambush Vampire has been changed.

Ancient Prejudice is a little pushed but I want to keep the rarity. It does a thing red can do but with a non red wording (Bump in the Night). For Abbey Wolfhound, the only way I could justify a 2/2 for four in green was pseudo-unblockability.

Mind's Reap is powerful. Should I up the number?

Mind's reap is going to get played in faster formats and even modern unless you put that at a ludicrously high number. It's because the faster formats that play Blue mana symbol and can run Counterspell can run this along with it and get to choose between countering and drawing two cards now. There are also more svelte ways to do pseudo unblockability in Green mana symbol than that guy I think.

@Cajun: Pretty cool but between the power level of what is essentially repetitive removal, mana fixing, and a feel-bad moment where your creature fights itself and dies, I think there might be an alternative. Here's a few adjustments (don't panic, I'm only suggesting things A happy smile):

Tavern of Tolls
Land
As Tavern of Tolls enters the battlefield, choose a creature type.
Tap symbol: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool. Spend this mana only to cast a creature spell of the chosen type.
4 mana symbol, Tap symbol: Until end of turn, whenever a creature of the chosen type enters the battlefield under your control, you may have it fight target creature.

What changed?

1. Creature support only. Ancient Ziggurat.
2. It no longer strictly outclasses Arena, and moves to the "mass-fight" category.
3. No feel-bad moments where your creature has to fight itself.
4. It's no longer overpowered, in my opinion at least.

Whenever The Lambton Wurm is dealt damage less than its toughness, regenerate it.
When The Lambton Wurm dies, choose target creature an opponent controls. Unless that player sacrifices that creature, return The Lambton Wurm to the battlefield tapped.

This is based on a legend from the northeast of England, the tale of the Lambton Worm (with an O, but this is MtG so my card is a Wurm). A teenager named John, heir to the Lambton estate in County Durham, skips church one morning and goes fishing, and ends up catching a mysterious wormlike creature. Believing it to be the devil's work, he throws the worm into the local well, where it lurks for seven years while John goes off on a crusade.

When he returns, the worm has grown to tremendous size and escaped the well, and is terrorizing the locals, eating livestock and people alike. Attempts to kill it prove fruitless because it can reattach small pieces of itself instantly. John cleverly engages the beast near the River Wear, and cuts it clean in half, letting the tail end wash away downriver and preventing the Worm from regenerating. (Originally I had some smartass effect here that cared about your opponents having Islands or Swamps for enemy-color shenanigans, but that cluttered the design too much.)

In some variants of the tale, the Worm carries a death curse - whosoever kills it must kill the next living creature he sees, or his family will be doomed to nine generations of violent deaths. Regrettably, though, the first living thing John encounters after killing the Worm is his own father, and he cannot bring himself to kill the old man, choosing to kill the family dog instead. Indeed, the Lambton family was met with spectacularly bad luck for quite a while after the beast was supposedly slain. I've taken a bit of an artistic liberty with the curse's effect, reasoning that, often, death curses in legend result in the creature coming back to bite you - literally, in this case.

(I think this is the legend upon which Witherscale Wurm may be loosely based.)

I'd make it a 2/1. The effect is really powerful; see cards like Nekrataal and Shriekmaw. For a more morph-related card like it, see Silumgar Assassin. Giving it relatively low stats is a good idea because of the power level. Actually, it might be best to do it like this:

Masquerading Saboteur #2 Black mana symbolBlack mana symbol
Creature — Human Assassin Rare
Morph 1 mana symbolBlack mana symbolBlack mana symbol (You may cast this face down as a 2/2 creature for 3. Turn it face up any time for its morph cost.)
Deathtouch
When Masquerading Saboteur #2 is turned face up, destroy target creature or planeswalker.

I'd avoid making it cost 1 mana symbolBlack mana symbol, because that would make it significantly better than Hand of Silumgar. I know it's a common, but it would still have a huge upside. You could also cost it at 2 mana symbolBlack mana symbol if you want.

I was trying to think of a Green mana symbol control spell. Came up with this:

Instant Rare
Whenever a land is tapped for mana this turn, that land produces Green mana symbolGreen mana symbol instead.

Is that too good? Too useless as an actual ramp spell? I wanted it to have dual functionality but in order to do that I may have to give it a clause that says you can cast it as an instant for 2 mana symbol more or something and have its initial cost be 2 mana symbolGreen mana symbol.

Yeah, it has to be cast with 8 lands to break even, and you only get 1 extra mana per land beyond that. It is a cool control spell, but it's not very useful as mana-accel.

Well, it has more versatility than Silence. (But, admittedly, not much because if you cast this with five lands then you've just mana ramped for 1 mana symbol but I guess if color fixes all your lands to Green mana symbol? Maybe I can get away with making this a Green mana symbol High Tide?

High Tide is very powerful, but perhaps only because it's blue. I don't know how to balance it, playtesting will have to show. It is weaker than silence if they're going to cast artifacts, green spells, or eldrazi though.

Yeah. This whole discussion makes me just want to abandon the card. It is kind of ridiculous to give Green mana symbol a silence effect. But it did give me an idea for another card.

It's kind of a nice utility creature. I don't see why it needs to be so big though (most people are loathe to sac a fatty for good reason. There are only a few ones that people like to sac like Bloodfire Colossus. I think I'd like it better as a 2 mana symbolGreen mana symbolBlack mana symbol or maybe Green mana symbolBlack mana symbol creature that has less P/T or something that triggers on combat damage to players (maybe even just the attack trigger is fine b/c it doesn't get put on the battlefield).
